Bluebonnet season
The California golden poppy (Eschscholzia californica), the official state flower and possibly the most famous wildflower in the West.
Since we didn’t have a lot of rain last winter, we didn’t have nearly as many as we’ve had in wet years. A clump or two has managed to bloom into September thanks to some monsoonal summer showers.
The color this year has been muted, too—more on the golden-yellow side than the flaming orange the poppy is known for.

Just a little Photoshop exercise. My phone camera isn't the highest quality, so I was very pleased to have captured a nice picture of a bitterroot blossom after a rain shower. I decided to play around with it a bit. The bitterroot is the state flower of Montana. Its roots can be boiled, peeled and eaten. It's a traditional medicine used by Montana's indigenous peoples.
