Blocking Board - finished
Finished my blocking board this morning. It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. It's already in use, actually, lol.
I started by googling how to build one, and reading a bunch of different blog posts. Then I just picked from those posts the things that I thought would work for me. So I didn't follow any one tutorial, but they're all pretty similar.
Here's how I made mine:
Foam puzzle pieces from the dollar store, plywood cut to fit the puzzle pieces, towels, and a yard of fabric with a 1-inch square pattern.
I Gorilla Glued the puzzle pieces to the plywood, let dry, then wrapped the towels around it and stapled them in place. The towels are to absorb the moisture from steam-blocking, and to add a little more for the pins to dig into.
Then I wrapped the fabric around the board, being careful to make sure that the lines of the fabric were as straight as possible, and stapled it in place.
Done! Using a 1-inch square patterned fabric makes it easy to measure your squares/pieces when you block them, because you can use the grid as a guideline.
Some of my Babette squares pinned out and ready to be steamed! The board is only 27 inches wide by 18 inches high, so it's easy to move around and easy to store.
