🎀🌸 Our Flag Means Death S2E4 - Fun and Games 🌸🎀
For @merryfinches <3. Have the happiest birthday, Kylie! I'm so very glad I've gotten to know you. You're so talented, and so kind, and such an integral part of this fandom! Where would I be without all your lovely, pink hued art?! Where would WE be?! It would definitely be a darker, duller place, that's for sure! Love you so much, and hope you have a day as warm and lovely as you! <3 <3 <3
Can't believe this made me choke on my sandwich XDD
Just thinking about Ed talking to Stede Bunnet. Ed came back to life from being mostly dead. And while wandering through the wilderness — something we see isn't his favorite — he comes across this wolf bunny.
This is parallel to Ed's time in the gravy basket. There he talks to Hornighost Hornigold, a manifestation of himself.
Both of these times follow a pattern: Ed completely opens up about himself. To another being but is really a self projection. His talks include core aspects of himself: he's afraid of spiders and tries to confront the fear by putting tattoos on his hands, yet he can hide them when he needs to; he wants to be Ed and have fun while thinking he hates himself, and after talking he realizes he wants to live.
Next there comes a death rebirth: Ed into the water and Mary killing the bunny. Just like how Ed's decision to live gives him a new chance, the bunny's death offers nutrients to others. I'm sure there is some commentary of Ed eating the bunny but that's for a whole other meta — just like how water is often used as cleansing in film theory.
After this death and rebirth, Ed sees the people in his life both past and present who are/were close to him. Stede is there the first time, and takes Ed from the ocean and fantasy (Mer!Stede) to reality and solid ground. They have an amazing way of representing not just the ocean and land but meet in the middle: the beach.
Anne and Mary are second, and they offer a glimpse at Ed's past. Just like Hornigold, we see Ed's past. The first season revolves around Ed wanting to be Ed, the second is looking back even more and as Ed's core to take all three of those sides of Ed (the Kraken, Blackbeard, and Ed) and learning to embrace all of them, not compartmentalizing them. Last, we see Ed with Stede again, all four of them having dinner, eating the rabbit. The past, present and future all together. Ed and Stede become a united front and leave together, the present and future on the horizon.
Ed's journey of looking back on the past and reconciling that to further embrace his future continues with his talk with Fang.
I love watching Ed open up to himself, self reflect, and learn to love himself. And I love these two scenes where he talks to other beings, expanding in a way the playfulness that he needs in his life, even when speaking to himself.
Who knew this small bunny would completely take over my mind out of everything in the trailer i literally cant stop thinking about her
I NEED petty Ed next season please mr jenkins
I’ll never forgive them for making such a great show and then cancelling it (btw this is my favorite episode ever)
