Everything hurts when Steve wakes, and he lets out a little moan before he can help himself.

Immediately there’s a hand holding his, another petting at his hair on the other side. He squints his eyes open.

Thor and Bucky are both leaning over him. He moans again and shuts his eyes.

“He’s in a lot of pain,” Bucky says.

“Yes,” Thor agrees. “Probably so much that we shouldn’t bother him.”

Steve whimpers, but he opens his eyes again. “No,” he mumbles, “Stay. Please.”

The mattress shimmies a little, and Steve peeks one eye open again. The bed about twice as wide as it had been before, though the only reason he knows that is because Bucky and Thor are far away now, leaning over to keep holding his hands.

“Don’t go,” he says again, but even as he does, Thor and Bucky climb onto the bed with him.

They curve themselves around him like a pair of parentheses, their arms gentle around his bruised belly, keeping him safe.

steve grows a beard for the first time (that the avengers have seen at least)

The first time they’re called back to Earth from Asgard, the emergency’s big enough that Steve, Bucky, and Thor don’t have time to change from their finery. The revelry for The Lady Sif’s triumphant return had been about to be the stuff of legends.

There are flowers woven into Steve’s beard and Bucky’s braided hair and Thor’s both. They’re not quite tipsy yet but when Clint tumbles off the top of the fridge when they arrive, it seems like a good time to giggle.

“So you’re just gonna be Norse gods now, is that it?” Tony asks. “You move off to Asgard to be Prince Consorts of the God of Thunder, and you just decide it’s time to look Asgardian too, is that it?”

“You’re just mad you can’t grow more of a beard,” Steve says. “You people going to tell us what the emergency is, or what?”

- bucky is the first one between steve and him to get a real job that isn’t street fighting for cash. he works at a quiet bookstore/coffeeshop owned by a nice veteran named sam who recognizes ptsd when he sees it

- funnily enough though, steve had already known sam when sam helped him stop a mugging and was surprised when bucky told him about the job

- with the new money, bucky takes to buying thor random trinkets in thanks for letting him and steve stay with him

- the first time thor catches steve and bucky having sex is a very awkward moment for all three of them bc steve and bucky had definitely been talking about thor while fucking

- when loki gets banned from the gym, he takes to accosting thor at random intervals throughout the day when he isn’t in the gym. steve and bucky can tell when he’s seen loki, and they get pissed and protective every time

so i've been thinking about the thorstevebucky boxing au and i feel like originally thor's apartment was thor AND LOKI's apartment but they had a fight and loki moved out so it's loki's room steve and bucky are using. but loki can't hold down a job so every now and then he borrows money from thor, which thor gives freely because he feels responsible. and one day steve and bucky come home and loki is there. and loki is super resentful so he says awful shit about thor taking advantage of them

Oh no :( and it'd be just as they're both getting comfortable and then loki shows up and says really shitty things about thor, like how he takes advantage of people and how he doesn't like 'strays', implying that that's what they are

steve and bucky on their own aren’t strong enough to beat thor in a sparring match, so sometimes to give him a real challenge they team up and fight him, two-on-one. the last time they did this they ended up getting so into it that they didn’t notice sam and clint come in until darts started flying across the gym

whenever they have free time bucky and thor take to doing each other’s hair. not just braiding it but like. curling each others hair. dyeing it? CRIMPING. BUCKY AND THOR CRIMPING EACH OTHER’S HAIR

(everyone groans, and sam laughs about hipster captain america and then introduces bucky and thor to the wonderful world of hair accessories - he has nieces, okay, he keeps like three emergency bags at his place full of hair stuff for them. his nieces, when they find out where their emergency hair supplies are going, gleefully help bucky and thor put pretty clips and barrettes and pins in their hair. bucky and thor learn how to do the girls’ hair as well.)

thor visits asgard and brings back asgardian clothing for his boyfriends. steve refuses to take his cape off all day (”fuckin’ idiot,” bucky mutters under his breath. “i don’t see you taking your poncho off, buck,” steve replies. bucky’s offended response is cut off when tony says, “jesus, steve, kid wants to pretend he’s luke skywalker, who’re you to stop him?”) (for the rest of the week every time one of them goes into tony’s workshop they wear the poncho and point at whatever tony’s working on and say, “what a piece of junk!”)
