There were many facts and stories about Miles Prower's early life that were quickly lost to the mists of time. How much the fox himself remembers is a question that many assume will never be answered.
There was one fact that would never be forgotten. Even when the memory twisted and jumped to meet another, not everything would lose sight of the truth.
Six little lights in particular, knew it well, in their own way.
Little Miles soared above Cocoa Island. Avenging and protecting in turn, he faced a force much, much bigger than him. One that wanted to conquer the heavens—and bury the fox.
The emeralds in their strange confinements were more than willing to give the kit a little boost in his efforts. There was a small spark in him. A drive invisible to most that would bring him farther than anyone could imagine. The six found that path to be worth following.
One last explosion rocked the island, and it was over. The Kukkus failed. The fox was once again alone. It was time for the six to leave, just like everyone else.
The six chaos emeralds knew they would see him again soon. The next adventure was coming up over the horizon.
The little kit watched them go, unaware of that inevitability. He stood on top a shouldering island, the last person standing. He tried to fly up and call for the emeralds as they left.
In an instant, he fell. No matter how hard he spun his tails, regardless of the remaining adrenaline, he could not get his feet off the ground for more than a few seconds. Gravity staked its claim on him once again, dragging him down the moment he was about to return to the sky.
Cocoa island would never be the same. Miles looked towards the remains of his haven, his friends, and the place he felt most at home.
It never was going to last, was it?
The little kit returned to West Side, slowly but surely running out of options. Scavenging in junkyards was his main source for tools. The forests were fruitful, and the friendly flickies often waved hello at him while they picked berries.
A pit of envy slowly grew when he watched them fly off.
Those feelings distracted him. Slowly but surely, something on the island rotted. The critters were. The few that weren't got weaker and grayer.
Miles was stuck in the motion, running down the same green routes to nowhere good. The one bright spot is that he figured out to become airborne. It was not true flight, but it felt like finding a sturdy step only slightly below the surface of a rushing stream. If nothing else, it helped him outrun some mean older kids.
That speed did not help him when they chased him into a corner. Seemingly to spite his recent advancement, they grabbed his tails and pulled. And pulled. And pulled.
Then, suddenly, it was gone. Blue wind winded about, leaving the bullies breathless in a pile.
Turning around, Miles spotted a streak of blue rushing down the hill. The blur slowed down to smile back.
Wonder seeped into the pit. The mysterious, stubborn drive that Tails would never fully understand rose to meet it. Like a chemical reaction, it sent a burst of energy through him.
Before he knew it, he was on the wind's tail. It pushed him harder.
C'mon, try to keep up, it challenged.
Miles spun and spun and spun. Leaning forwards, he forced the wind to meet him.
"You don't know how good you have it!" Neo Metal Sonic's voice bites through the air, catching the E-100 unit off guard. Omega spins back around, facing the taller robot in surprise. "You broke free!" Neo continues, stalking up to the shorter robot. "You can do anything you want, and yet you choose to waste your freedom disposing of worthless pieces of junk."
Omega stands there silent and unwavering, unsure of Neo's motives or what he was talking about. "You don't deserve the liberties you have if you cannot see the value in your own autonomy!" Neo strikes at Omega's chassis, but is effectively blocked by one of the E-Series claws. "You have acquired friends, allies, perhaps a family!" Neo raises his voice box as he strikes with each syllable he utters.
"And you could care less about these people who have offered you support!" Neo fakes a punch and instead kicks Omega, sending him flying creating a dent in the wall behind him. "What I would give to swap places with you!" Neo Metal Sonic runs at the E-Series and pins him against the wall. "You could have the entire Eggman army at your fingertips! You could command them as you please and even turn them on your own creator as I did. Never again would Eggman laugh in your face as he rebuilds you or call you a joke!"
Neo grasps Omega's head in his hands and forces him to look into his eyes. "Swap bodies with me. You have proven to be resilient against reprogramming. You could dissolve the empire from the inside and Eggman could do nothing to stop you!"
Omega looks away for a moment, then meets Neo's eyes again. "PROPOSITION PENDING. WHAT WILL YOU DO?"
Neo releases the robot and steps back, giving the other badnik space to rotate. "Partake in the activities I covet, which you take for granted!"
Omega balls his claws into fist, staring angrily at his eye screen. "DO YOU PLAN ON HARMING SHADOW AND ROUGE?"
"Ah!" Neo raises his head mockingly. "So you do care about them. You could have fooled me! Then why do you spend so much time away from them? Have you not seen the signs that they clearly want you around?"
Omega is silent and glances at the door to the entrance of the building behind him. Neo follows his line of sight. "Oh. I see now. You are afraid. Afraid they will leave first." With a mighty roar and a fit of rage, Omega strikes Neo with his fists. A flurry which he easily avoids. "Afraid that they might shut the door in your face behind them." Neo dodges each oncoming attack as he continues to pull the insecurities of the badnik to light. "That they might shut you out! Or that they might abandon you too."
"GRAAAAAHHHH!!" Omega lunges at Neo with the ferocity of a wounded tiger, ripping at the metal plating surrounding his core and head. Neo stops him effortlessly.
"You leave first to control your own autonomy. Do you not know you are effectively self-sabotaging yourself and destroying your friendships with those you hold close?!"
With a metallic whine Omega drops to his knees and balls up dirt in his claws. Neo steps closer to him, offering a hand down to the E-Series.
"Swap bodies with me!" He reiterates his exchange request. "I will treat Rouge and Shadow better than you know you ever could. Never again will you have to run to secure your own autonomy for it will not be tied to anyone's actions but your own. The entire empire will be yours to control and as such our creator at your mercy."
The E-Series trembles and reaches up a claw to accept the hand offered to him. A silent curse and apology passes across his voice box but to who it is for remains unsaid. His claw hesitates for second, but eventually closes the distance, sealing this deal and his future. Omega meets Neo's eyes and arises from his position on the floor. They hold on tight to each other, gaze unwavering as the final words are spoken. "PROPOSITION: ACCEPTED."
tails has a really bad nightmare about westside (parent abandonment or another traumatic incident) and he goes to his big bro sonic for some emotional support and cuddles

--------------------
He’s tired of running.
He’s tired of being chased.
But he doesn’t want to get hurt, so he keeps running despite how out of breath he was.
That is, until a figure steps out in front of him, causing him to skid to a stop.
Their head was a blurry mess, which he assumes is because of the tears in his eyes.
Somewhere in his mind he knows the real reason, but he doesn’t get much chance to think on it when more blurry figures surround him.
The forest scenery he’d been running through started morphing into other things. The village, the beach, other clearings around the island, until everything went black.
Everything but those damn figures.
They approached him, causing him to shrink down. He couldn’t do anything. They were blocking any chance of running, and everyone knows he’s far too weak to fight back.
His breathing quickened even more as he curled into him, biting down sobs as he prayed to some God out there to protect him despite knowing nobody would do anything for him.
He was a deformed freak. Why would someone save him?
One of the figures grabbed him, and then everything disappeared.
He was trapped in an endless void as voices bounced around the air, insults worse than anything you could think of thrown at him from every angle.
He just had to take it.
Covering his ears did nothing to drown it out.
A few voices were more prominent than the others. He recognized them.
How could he not, when they were laughing about how much better their life was now that he was no longer a part of it?
The voices eventually merged into one, the sentence being repeated over and over.
It started as some random one he’d heard years ago, then morphed into those of his ex-family’s. His older brother, mother, hell even his father despite the fact he hadn’t heard his voice since he was one year old.
It didn’t stop changing.
It eventually morphed into his new family.
First, Shadow.
Next, Rouge.
Vector, Cream, Silver, Espio, Charmy.
Amy then Knuckles. Until, finally..
It was Sonic.
“Why would anyone want a freak like you in their family?”
–
Tails’ eyes shot open, breathing uneven and he felt his fur sticking to his skin in the most uncomfortable ways possible due to all the sweat.
His quick breaths slowed as he looked around, recognizing his bedroom.
He was fine.
No one was chasing him.
With a groan, the fox pushed himself into a sitting position. He brought a hand up to rub at his eyes, pausing when he felt the trail of tears on his muzzle.
He swallowed dryly, suddenly feeling very dehydrated. He glanced at his digital clock as he pulled his blanket off to the side, not caring about neatening it. He had to wash it and his sheets anyway because of all the sweat.
3:37 AM.
Tails wiped away his tears as he exited his room, socked feet taking careful steps on instinct to avoid all the creaky planks.
He hated the noise they made. He really needed to fix it.
The kit used the wall for support as he descended down the stairs. He took a deep breath as he made his way to the kitchen.
He stopped in the living room.
Sonic was on his couch, sprawled out in a way that could not be comfortable in any way. Drool spilled from the corner of the hedgehog’s mouth, snores louder than most of the fox’s machinery filled the air.
Tails wanted to roll his eyes at the scene. It wasn’t unusual for Sonic to crash at his place unexpectedly–he did have a key–but did he always have to use the couch? He had a bedroom of his own for this specific reason.
But the fox’s breath felt caught in his throat at the sight of the older, his nightmare flooding his brain full force.
“Why would anyone want a freak like you in their family?”
His ears pressed against his head as new tears piled in the corner of his eyes. He swiped at them, but more immediately took their place.
His breathing started picking up pace and, before he knew it, he was in front of Sonic, his ungloved paw hovering above the hedgehog’s shoulder.
He forced his body to freeze, biting his inner cheek.
Tails is 8 years old now. He shouldn’t be running to his big brother because of a bad dream. He’s old enough to deal with these on his own.
But no matter how hard his mind begs his body to leave the teen be, it’s a losing battle.
His hand makes contact with the hedgehog’s shoulder, shaking it as softly as he can to tell the other he’s not a threat.
“Why would anyone want a freak like you in their family?”
With a grunt, Sonic’s eyes slowly opened as he looked up to see who woke him. Tails immediately regrets it, the teen looks exhausted.
That exhaustion seemed to disappear when Sonic saw the tears welled up in the younger’s eyes.
“You okay?” His voice was groggy, still catching up to the rest of his body being awake. The little fox shook his head as the teen sat up.
“C’mere, kid.” Sonic gave him a sympathetic smile as he opened his arms, inviting the kit to lay on him. Tears finally spilled over as Tails crawled into his hero’s arms.
Sonic shushed the younger, his left hand petting the kit’s head as his right held him close. The kid buried his head into the older’s neck, hiding his tears.
“D’ya have a bad dream, bud?” The teen asked quietly, his head leaning against the fox’s as he gently rocked them.Tails’ head bobbed ever so slightly, hands gripping the hedgehog with a strength you wouldn’t expect an eight year old to possess.
Sonic hummed, letting the kit know he heard him as he continued the slow rocks and gentle pets. He kept it up until the sobs quieted, the death grip on his back easing as the younger pulled away.
The hedgehog frowned at the sight of his brother’s face. It was obvious he had been crying even before waking the teen up, his eyes were too red and his fur was a complete mess.
“Wanna talk?” The older asked, using the hand that was petting the fox to wipe away his tears.
“I-It–” Tails shook his head and leaned into the touch, “It was just.. Bad memories. Westside.” The kit tried not to talk too much, his throat feeling scratchy. He needed some water, but he didn’t want to get up.
“Again?” Sonic frowned. The fox had been having a lot of nightmares about Westside recently.
“I-I know, I’m sorry.” The boy bit his lip, suddenly thinking that this was a terrible idea.
“No, don’t apologize, li’l bro. Not your fault.” The teen pulled the younger into another hug, feeling how much he was shaking.
“Still. I-It’s childish to run to you every time.” Tails grumbled, but he didn’t pull away from the hug. He cuddled into his hero, his namesakes providing them warmth as they curled around.
“Nothin’ wrong with being childish. Or needing help.” Sonic shook his head. He had to break the kit free from that thought process, but he just couldn’t figure out how to do it.
The fox didn’t respond, just closed his eyes as he worked on evening out his breath.
The teen hummed as he moved to lay back down, pulling the cover over the two of them without releasing his hold on his little brother.
“Get some sleep, buddy.” Sonic whispered as he scratched the spot behind Tails’ ears to help ease him. “We can deal with it in the morning.”
The fox nodded as he shifted slightly to be more comfortable, mumbling a quiet goodnight to the older.
The hug paired with the gentle petting made it easy for the kid to fall asleep. He was out within a few seconds.
Sonic sighed, pressing his forehead against the younger’s.
He just wishes there was something he could do to make the nightmares leave his little brother alone.
Idk if you’re still taking requests for Drabble prompts, if not feel free to ignore and/or delete this, but I was thinking of a scenario where Sonic and Tails are sleeping together all cuddled up, and Sonic wakes up to see Tails still asleep, incredibly relaxed, with his tongue sticking out juusst a bit. Basically Sonic sees Tails doing a Blep™️ and it’s very cute

Being a hero is hard work.
Yes, Sonic did technically put himself in that position, but society enabled him so he’s still allowed to complain.
That doesn’t mean he would stop being a hero. He enjoys it, and saving the people of Mobius is one of his favorite past times.
But it still exhausts him. Sonic has his limits, you know! And sure, he has far more stamina then any normal mobian, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get tired.
But people won’t rely on a tired hero to save them so Sonic, being the smart guy he is, made Mobius believe he couldn’t get tired. He made the people believe he didn’t have limits.
Everyone on the planet believed it!
Well..
Everyone but Tails.
Tails saw Sonic’s limits.
Tails helps take care of Sonic when he reaches those limits.
Tails is the only thing on this planet that has seen Sonic at his limit.
Which is exactly why Tails is currently sleeping ontop of Sonic, keeping him from moving.
And unlucky for Sonic, they were outside basking in the sun when the little fox had climbed ontop of him.
Which meant he was going to be stuck for hours.
Sonic knew this tactic. Tails always did it when he noticed Sonic was just the tiniest bit slower.
He would stop their run, using hydrating as an excuse because he knew Sonic would never say no to a water break when he asked.
Then the second Sonic’s sprawled out on the grass, Tails plops himself right on his chest, curled into the fluffiest ball you will ever lay your eyes on and making the loudest purrs he possibly can in hopes of getting Sonic to sleep.
And it works.
Even if Sonic’s mind and body feel awake as ever, he will fall asleep without fail.
This is what he gets for adopting a genius as his little brother.
Usually, Tails will wake up before Sonic. He’ll still be laying on the hedgehog’s chest, providing a comforting weight while giving him the most mischievous yet innocent smile Sonic’s ever seen, politely asking if he had a good nap.
He’s such a handful sometimes, but Sonic wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Every now and then, Sonic will wake up before Tails does.
And he thinks it might just be his favorite thing in the world.
Sonic’s not an idiot, he knows the kid’s had a rough go. Nobody who has it good is going to abandon their home island for some stranger without second guessing it.
Tails never did that. He never looked back, never even wanted to talk about Westside. He wanted nothing more than to forget it once he left.
Being able to see his kid fully relaxed was a better sight then the thousands of sunsets Sonic’s seen combined, even if at the cost of a run.
When Tails is fully relaxed, he uncurls from his little fluffball of protection. His tails will fall to his side, his breathing completely evened out. His ears don’t strain, causing them to flop over.
And he bleps.
Which is when Tails’s tongue stickd out ever so slightly. Sonic’s been calling it bleping for about 2 years now, and in those years he’s only seen it a handful of times.
But it’s so. damn. cute.
Ever since Tails built them phones, mainly for talking with friends when there isn’t an immediate threat, Sonic has been taking pictures of the kit in his fully relaxed position every time he’s blessed with seeing it.
Tails doesn’t know about it.
That's why Sonic has to slowly, and quietly, get his phone out of his shoe. It’s one of the most stressful things he’s ever done.
One wrong move and he loses his picture.
Sonic doesn’t have a strategy for it, so if you’re planning on taking your own blep pictures; good luck. That’s all the advice he can give you.
Oh, and remember to turn off your flash.
Sonic didn’t remember that.
Obviously, the bright light ruined everything. Tails’ nose scrunched as his brow furrowed, annoyed by the sudden brightest against his face. One of his eyes opened up half-way, confusion clear on his face when he saw the hedgehog’s phone.
Flash is the worst.
“Sonic?” Tails’s other eye opened as he looked up to his brother, who shushed him.
“My bad, go back to sleep.” He mumbled, fumbling with the flash button to tun it off.
“Were you taking a picture?” The fox brought a hand up to rub at his eyes, attempting to wake himself up more.
“No.” Sonic lied, and he knew Tails knew he lied. Especially because of the look he received.
“Uh-huh.” Tails shook his head before sitting up, stretching his arms out with a yawn. “Since you have your phone, what time is it?”
“Uhhh,” The teen squinted at the small numbers, “three forty-eight.”
“Already?” The kit asked, rubbing his eyes again. “Wow, sorry. Didn’t mean to sleep that long.”
“Nah, it’s good, li’l bro.” Sonic waved it off. He sat up, causing the younger to slide from his chest to his lap.
“Right, well,” Using the hedgehog’s shoulder, Tails got up on his feet. He then offered his hand to the other, “let’s head back to my workshop. I’ve got work to finish.”
“Does that work include falling asleep on me?” Sonic teased, accepting his brother’s outstretched hand and letting him pull him to his feet. The fox rolled his eyes.
“Only if you slow down.” He said, letting his tails spin and lift him off the ground.
“Hey, I never slow down.” The hedgehog said as he stretched his body. He may be the fastest thing alive, but he still got cramps.
“If that’s what you want to believe.” Tails grinned at his brother.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Sonic raised a brow at the fox, hands on his hips now that he was done stretching.
“Race ya!” The kit winked before flying off, gone before the teen even could even shout back.

Tails always knew to expect waking up to Sonic being somewhere in his house.
But this was new.
Usually, the highspeed hedgehog was content with using the couch for his naps.
But it seemed he wanted something a little more comfortable today.
And apparently that something was the fox’s bed, along with using said fox as a blanket/teddy.
Now, Tails isn’t one to deny a cuddle session with his big brother. He welcomes it any chance he gets, really!
But he’s also got a very busy schedule, and he really needs to start working.
It’s already 9am!
Wiggling out of the hero’s arms was a no go. Tails had already tried a few times.
How did Sonic have such a strong grip in his sleep?
Tails supposes he could try waking the hedgehog up, but he really doesn’t want to. His brother needs his sleep, after all.
But he also really needed to get to work.
“Sonic?” He whispered, turning around so he could face the older. He wrestled a hand out to poke the teen’s cheek, hoping he could stir him just enough to let go without fully waking up.
Sonic just grunted and pulled the younger closer, which caused him to huff.
“Sonic, please,” Tails tried a little louder, gently shaking the hedgehog’s shoulder, “I need to get up.”
The fox couldn’t help but roll his eyes when he received another grunt as the other snuggled into him even more.
Who knew Sonic was so clingy in his sleep?
Well, Tails did. The teen’s been like this for a good few years.
The kit groaned, letting his head drop onto his pillow. He glanced around the room, looking for anything that might help him out of this.
He flinched slightly when a sudden drop of something wet fell on his ear, causing it to flick. His brow furrowed, because he’s in his bed. There shouldn’t be anything that can get his ear wet.
Glancing up at the now snoring hedgehog, he quickly figured out what landed on him.
Drool.
“Oh, gross!” No longer caring about letting his brother sleep, Tails pushed against the older’s chest to get out of his arms, “Sonic!”
One of the teen’s ears flicked, but he ultimately stayed asleep. Annoyed, the fox grabbed one of his pillows and shoved it against the other’s face, cutting off his oxygen.
At least it woke the other up.
Sonic shoved the pillow away, blinking tiredly at the younger, “Dude, what–”
“You drooled on me!” Tails hissed, pulling back the pillow and hitting his brother with it, “You’re so gross!”
It took the hedgehog a second or two to register what the fox was talking about, but he laughed when he did, “That’s what you woke me up for?”
“Yes!” The younger looked up at his ear, scrunching his nose, “I was going to be nice and let you sleep, then you went and drooled on me!”
“Oh, you poor baby,” Sonic mocked him with a high voice, earning another hit from the pillow for it, which he blocked with his arm, “do you want me to get you a bottle of milk too?”
“Shut up!” Tails said, frowning, “I have to go wash up now! I don’t have time for this, I’ve got a lot of work today!”
The teen rolled his eyes, albeit with a little fondness, “You need a break from that workshop of yours anyway, bud,” he pointed out, shaking his head.
The kit just kept glaring at him, a pout on his face.
“Alright, well,” Sonic stretched before hopping out of the bed, “I’ll leave you to your sulking, baby bro.” He said with a wink before promptly dashing out of the room, ignoring the yelling from his little brother.
Tails groaned and rolled his eyes, tugging off his gloves as he made his way to the bathroom.

“I don’t understand the point of this, Tails.” Knuckles mumbled, watching as the fox powered on the tablet he was holding. He doesn’t think it’s the younger’s main tablet, as this one is red and a lot bigger.
“It’s fun!” Tails smiled as he swiped through the gallery of games downloaded, “We just gotta find something you’d like,” He hummed as continued looking.
The echidna sighed and placed a hand on the kit’s shoulder, guiding him to sit on the top stair of the shrine.
“Here,” The kid smiled, handing the tablet over to the older once he sat down, “let’s try this one out!”
Knowing he couldn’t say no to the fox, Knuckles took the tablet carefully and squinted at the screen. It had gone from the bright white to more colorful scenery, showcasing an island, “Animal Crossing?”
“It’s a more relaxed game,” Tails explained as he crossed his legs underneath one another, “I think it’s a good one to try out first.”
“If you say so,” The teen shrugged, tapping the button that read ‘new game’, raising a brow when it did nothing.
He heard the fox giggling beside him, “You have to use the buttons on the controller.” He said before reaching over and pressing the ‘A’ button.
“That seems pointless.” Knuckles grumbled, eyes staying focused on the screen.
“You have to use the buttons for everything in this game,” Tails said with a shrug, “thinking about it, it wouldn’t work all too well if you just tapped the screen for everything.”
Choosing to ignore what the fox had said, the teen squinted at the screen when he saw a character come up and start talking to him.
“Tom Nook?” He questioned, shaking his head, “an odd name.”
“The names aren’t all that important.” Tails said, leaning against the older.
“What is the objective of this, Tails?” Knuckles asked, looking at his brother.
“Your goal is to build up your island,” The kit explained, “y’know, making it livable for the villagers.”
“The island is inhabited?” The echidna asked as he continuously pressed the ‘A’ button, not caring to read any of the dialog.
“Well, it is now.” Tails shrugged, pointing at the avatars on screen, “by you, Tom, Timmy, Tommy, and two other randomized villagers.”
“Why?” Knuckles turned to look at the younger, “There are plenty of other places they could’ve lived, why take over an island?”
“Uhh,” Tails probably should’ve thought this through a bit more, “well, the island needs someone to take care of it, right? Make sure it isn’t overgrown, trees are able to grow healthily, etc.”
Knuckles hummed, looking back at the screen, “I suppose you’re right.”
The kit just smiled up at him, wrapping his tails around the two of them. He turned back to the screen, reading as much of the next he could before the teen skipped past.
When they were through all of the text, Knuckles turned to the younger to ask what the next step was, but the fox was already speaking.
“Now you get to see which villagers you’re starting with,” Tails said, pointing to the left joystick, “use that to go up to them, then press A to talk to ‘em.”
With a sigh, the echidna did as he was told and ran up to the lion wearing a bright green shirt.
“Oh, that’s Bud!” Tails said with a smile before adding, “I think you’ll like him.”
“Hmm.. I trust your judgment.” Knuckles mumbled before pressing ‘A’ to talk to Bud.
Noticing the older was taking the time to read the dialog because of him, the fox gave a smile as he leaned against the other. He stayed quiet, unless Knuckles specifically asked for his help with something.
——
“I still can’t believe you actually taught Knux how to play a video game.” Sonic said, shaking his head. He and Tails were at Angel Island for a visit, which the oldest had paused for a minute so he could check on his virtual island.
It had been a few weeks since Tails showed the echidna how to play Animal Crossing and, from what he could tell, Knuckles really enjoyed it!
“Anyone can learn how to play a game,” Tails shrugged his shoulders, glancing over at the echidna, “you just gotta find the right game for them.”
“And you figured a calm game was the right one?” The hedgehog raised his brow at his brother, “Do we know the same Knuckles?”
The kit rolled his eyes, using his elbow to nudge the older, “Knuckles is calm! You just always push his patience!”
“Whatever you say, l’il bro.” Sonic laughed when he received a punch in his arm in place over the gentle nudge, looking over at Knuckles as he rejoined the group.
“Hey!” Tails greeted, a bright, innocent smile on his face as if he didn’t just punch the hedgehog, “Everyone alright?”
Knuckles gave a curt nod, “They are good. They seem happy with the decorations I’ve added.”
“You’ll have to show me all your new stuff soon!” The kit said as they sat down on the ground, getting ready for lunch, “That includes your new villagers.”
Sonic snorted from his spot to the right of the fox, “You’re telling me he let’s people stay on the island?”
The echidna rolled his eyes, “I’m fine with people being on my island, hedgehog. Just not you.”
“What?” The teen reeled back, an exaggerated gasp leaving his mouth, “I’ve saved this island so many times, dude!”
“You would ruin the grass with all of your running.” The older pointed out, a small smirk on face proving he didn’t really mean what he was saying. Not entirely, at least.
“You’d just do some ancient echidna spell to fix ‘em.” Sonic joked, shooting a wink at the youngest.
“You know that’s not possible.” The smirk fell from Knuckles’ face. He was starting to get annoyed.
Tails sighed, bringing his knees up to his chest as he continued to watch his hero annoy their older brother until his temper snapped. It didn’t take long for Knuckles to take a swing at Sonic, since he knew all the perfect ways to push the echidna over the edge.
Figuring they’d be at it for a while, the kit got up from his spot and flew to the top of the Master Emerald’s shrine, picking up the red tablet and plopping himself on the top step.
He’ll just have to give himself a tour of Knuckles’ island.
maybe tails and knuckles are hanging out on angel island and tails is getting increasingly frustrated with a project hes brought with him
but all knuckles can think is 'damn, this little guy is adorable when angry' (all i can think is the tails pouting sprite from the murder game) - hes fluffy and tiny!! a little angry guy
and ofc tails hates being called cute, so this makes him pout angrier
if that makes sense? i absolutely adore your works, you're my favourite tails centric writer so i hope you're able to get better soon <3

Knuckles took a deep breath, enjoying the clear air. He closed his eyes and leaned against the Master Emerald.
It was refreshing, especially since he and the others had just gotten home from another adventure.
The echidna was more than happy to be back home. Soaking in the Master Emerald’s warmth, listening to all the critters playing around on the island, etc.
It was perfect.
“Ow, dangit!”
Too bad perfect things don’t last forever.
Knuckles peaked an eye open and looked over at the steps of the shrine, watching as the fox stuck the side of his finger into his mouth.
“Everything okay, bud?” He called, watching as one of the big ears flicked before swiveling towards him, showing that the younger was listening to him.
“Yeah,” Tails grumbled after pulling his finger after his mouth, “this stupid thing just clipped me.”
The echidna hummed before walking over to the kit, taking a seat next to him. He was working on repairing the Miles Electric, it had gotten destroyed during their adventure.
Knuckles hadn’t seen the kid that sad in a while.
Tails glanced over for a second before returning to what he was doing, getting lost once again in his work.
Watching the younger work amused Knuckles. He didn’t understand a single thing he was doing, but it was still interesting to watch.
Tails’ movements were so fluent, so confident. With the way he worked, the echidna was sure he could repair the damned thing blindfolded and with an arm tied behind his back.
Well, until the kit groaned and slammed the tablet on the ground beside him, glaring at it.
Knuckles blinked in surprise, not having expected the small outburst.
“What was–” He started, but stopped when Tails’s ears folded against his head as he looked away from the Miles Electric with a pout.
They sat in silence for a minute. Mostly because Knuckles had no idea how to react to that.
“Uh,” He leaned forward slightly to try and make eye contact, but the younger just turned away and crossed his arms, “are you–”
“I’m fine.” Tails mumbled, one of his namesakes curling around to rest on his lap, “Just frustrated.”
Knuckles thought on it for a second before nodding, showing he understood. He should probably leave the kid alone for a while.
But..
“I’d never thought I’d say this,” He started, smiling a little when he saw the other’s ears flick, “but I just realized I do agree with something Sonic has said.”
Tails’ brow furrowed before he turned to look up at the older, “What?”
The smile on Knuckles’ face quickly turned into a smirk, “You’re adorable when you’re angry.”
He barely kept himself from snorting as he watched the younger’s expression change as he finally registered what the echidna said.
“What?!” Tails’s cheeks flushed, but Knuckles wasn’t sure if it was because he was embarrassed or frustrated, “I am not!”
“Mm..” Knuckles hummed, shaking his head, “that’s what I had thought before. I didn’t think it was possible to look cute when mad, but you’ve proved me wrong.”
“I–” The kit went to argue, but bailed, deciding to turn and hide his face away in his tails. The older let out a soft chuckle, letting his hand gently rub his back.
“It’s nothing to be embarrassed over.” He said, “it could be a useful manipulation tactic.”
“I think I prefer you and Sonic fighting because of stupid stuff over this.” Tails grumbled, muffled by his namesakes.
“If you’re trying to change my mind, this isn’t helping.” Knuckles smirked at the glare he received from the younger.
“I thought I could trust you not to do this type of thing, Knuckles!” Tails whined, his ears drooping, “I already have to hear this from Sonic and Amy!”
“Sorry to have disappointed you, little one, but your cuteness was too much for me.” The fox groaned, dropping his head into his hands.
The echidna laughed and pulled the younger to his side, patting his shoulder a few times. They sat in the same position for roughly five minutes before Tails sighed and leaned into the other, wrapping his namesakes around the two of them.
Knuckles smiled at him, but didn’t say anything. He figured the fox was embarrassed enough for one day.
For prompt, how about Amy and Tails sibling bonding?

“Alright, Tails,” Amy smiled, holding up two separate bottles, “you sure about these colors?”
The kit nodded shyly, toying with the fur on one of his tails, “You’re sure nobody’s gonna make fun of me?”
“Of course not!” The hedgehog shook her head, patting one of his knees a couple of times, “And if they do, I’ll handle it.”
Tails hummed, looking at the floor. Amy clicked her tongue and poked the younger’s nose, giggling when he blinked at her in confusion.
“You’ll have your gloves, anyway,” She gave a sweet smile, “but we don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
“N-No, I want to.” Tails shook his head and looked at his gloves for a few seconds before gently tugging them off, revealing his paws.
Amy giggled and gently held one of the younger’s paws, pulling it closer to her, “alright, where do you want the pink?”
The fox pulled his knees to his chest, resting his chin atop it, “just on the rings.”
“On the rings,” The hedgehog repeated with a nod, unscrewing the bottle of pink nail polish and setting it on the floor next to her.
Tails stayed silent as he watched Amy dip the brush into the polish before swiping it across his nail, leaving a trail of a lightly saturated pink color.
She repeated the process on his opposite hand, humming along to the gentle classical music playing from her radio.
“And,” Amy sat the brush back into the bottle, picking up the other bottle of polish, “I’m guessing you want the rest to be this?”
Tails nodded, his ear flicking as he continued to watch his sister paint his nails, this time with a minty green on the rest of his bare nails.
“Y’know,” The hedgehog said once she finished with his left side, “this is a really cute color combo! I should use it more often.”
“Really?” The kit’s head tilted to the side, his ears flopping as he did so. He hadn’t chosen the colors because they looked good, he hadn’t even thought of that.
“Yeah!” Amy smiled up at him before refocusing on his nails, “Can I ask why you picked them?”
“Oh– uhm,” Ears tipping back in embarrassment, the little fox turned away from the older, “i-it’s embarrassing.”
The girl shrugged as she finished applying the polish to the final nail, “It’s okay if you don’t want to tell me, Tails. Was just curious.” She gave him another sweet smile as she placed the brush back into the bottle.
“Well,” Tails took a deep breath, the tip of one of his namesakes flicking as he looked at his nails, “the green’s because of my favorite food.”
“I guessed that,” Amy said with a grin, giggling when the younger ducked his head down, “and the pink?”
Tails went quiet, causing the hedgehog to wonder if she’d said the wrong thing. Just as she went to apologize, the kit mumbled out his reasoning;
“It’s for you,” He went to pick at the fur on his tails, but stopped himself when he remembered the polish was still wet.
“Me?” Amy said, taken aback slightly.
"W-Well, yeah," Tails’s ears pressed against his head even more, "because you're doing this for me, an-and it's really nice of you so i thought it'd be a good pair with the mint. Y-You're also like a big sister to me, s-so-"
He stopped talking when he was suddenly pulled into Amy’s chest, the hedgehog herself squeezing him as if she was trying to crush him.
“Awwh, Tails!” She laughed, pressing her cheek against the younger’s head, “That’s so sweet of you! And adorable!”
“O-Oh, uh–” Tails moved his hands out of the way, not wanting to mess up the girl’s hard work.
Amy suddenly pulled away, cupping the fox’s cheeks, “You are just the cutest!”
The kit laughed awkwardly, not sure how to handle the sudden compliments.
“Alright, it’s decided,” The tween moved her hands to the fox’s shoulders, “I’m stealing you from Sonic.”
“Wha–” Tails wasn’t really sure how he should respond to that, but Amy was already talking again so he didn’t dwell on it.
“Once we finish with yours,” She said, touching one of the younger’s nails as lightly as possible to check if it was dry before picking up the bottle of pink nail polish, “you’re doing mine in yellow and mint. We’ll match!”
“I’m not sure,” The kid said as the other applied a second coat of polish, “I don’t think I’ll be as good as you are at this.”
“Nonsense!” Amy shook her head, pointing the brush at her little brother, “And it doesn’t matter! We’re matching, end of story.” She determined, going back to painting the kit’s nails.
Sensing she wouldn’t take no for an answer, Tails just nodded and continued to watch as she continued painting his nails.
“And, for the record, young man,” The girl spoke once she finished, twisting the bottles of polish closed, “I absolutely am your big sister. Don’t you let anyone tell you otherwise!” She finished with a wink.
Tails just smiled in response, his namesakes gently wagging behind him. Amy returned the smile and reached into her bag of nail polish, pulling out a light yellow and offering it to the younger.
“You can’t get mad at me if I ruin it.” The fox said as he took the bottle of polish, unscrewing the lid.
“It’s gonna be fine,” The hedgehog rolled her eyes as she tugged off her gloves, “and it’s like I said, it doesn’t matter. It’ll be perfect no matter what it looks like!”
Tails shrugged and grabbed the tween’s right hand, pulling it towards him so he could apply the nail polish.
Amy watched as the boy became laser-focused on painting her nails. She smiled, whispering a quiet, “Just like you.”
