Part 1 if you missed it
I had to do a continuation from the first post </3
that one frame in the lost records bloom and rage trailer but it’s pre-crash lottienat
i don’t know if i’ll ever finish it but maybe lol
Okay I wasn’t gonna make a post myself about the good omens finale, but after 5 days I still have so many emotions and thoughts that I need to get them out of my system. So buckle up, this is most likely gonna be long.
🪽First off, I liked the finale. I really did. It was poetic and tragic but healing (?) at the same time (at least for me). I do agree though that it could have been solved a bit better, because the point that a lot of people are making that the “clean slate” thing is a cop out if you’ve driven your story against a wall, is very valid. But I love the “them finding each other as humans and being happy” - I know I will rewatch this scene every time I need something wholesome.
But I honestly think it would have felt better if we had 6 episodes instead of one. There would have been more talk about it, a build up, maybe hints throughout the show.
🔥 one thing I want to stress that kind of bugs me is that
LOVE THAT IS FOUND IN YOUR LATE 40S OR 50S IS NOT WORTH LESS BECAUSE IT ONLY LASTS A FEW YEARS
I have seen so many people say that “they only got like 20-30 years of being together instead of 6000” and this is so sad to me.
Because love can be found later in life and that does not mean that that love is any less fulfilling or beautiful or life-changing.
🪽 Things I would have wished for if we had gotten a whole season:
- the story with the Bentley to be drawn out more
- more Jesus! He was an amazing character I think, but he didn’t really get his chance to shine. His story arc felt out of place and disconnected sadly.
- more Muriel! Especially more Muriel on Earth, them running the bookshop, them investigating the Michael-Situation, just more of them.
- Maggie Service and Nina Sosanya. I would have loved to see them again in one role or another. Maybe not as Maggie and Nina, cause their story was finished, but give them new characters like what happened between s1 and s2
(Also - Idk if there is a personal reason why they did not return or if they were never meant to come back.)
- Demon!Aziraphale. That scene was so delightful.
- I would have loved the whimsy back. There is no room for whimsical explanations or bickering or gods voice or healing a bike, or seeing aziracrow interact throughout history, when you have to wrap up a story within one movie.
- Aaaaaaand I would have loved if Aziraphale and Crowley actually TALKED more about them and their relationship. I feel like there was still so much unsaid between them.
🔥 Also I personally think that the non-kiss was such a wonderful gesture. In movies and television a kiss is often portrayed as the ultimate sign of love and connection. But that is simply not true, in my opinion. If I would have changed anything I would have let them hug, actually. Them holding each other as the times ends and then having the big bang as a next scene - idk that might have been something.
But nevertheless, the touching of the lips was really fitting I think. It is not only an act of love and adoration, but an act of devotion. The fact that it was Aziraphale doing it meant a lot too I think.
🪽now I also want to address the free will debate. Because a lot of people argued that the whole point of the first two seasons is that humans have free will. And I think that is not true either. In the very first episode - god said that she “doesn’t play dice either the universe, but an ineffable game of her own devising” (not a direct quote but you get the idea). And throughout the seasons, we constantly see angels and demons make humans act in a way they need them to. It may seem like the humans get a choice, but they really don’t. The angels and demons make humans give out information they need, they make humans forget things or change their minds, they make humans shoot each other with real guns instead of paintball guns just for shits and giggles. They let a delivery gut drive around the world and kill himself to call the horsemen. They make humans fall in love just to save their own asses and cover up the Gabriel-miracle. The only “human” who really has a choice and get’s to make reality his own is Adam in the first season - and he’s not human, he’s the Antichrist (who then chooses to be human.)
🔥 Lastly, to me this wasn’t a “burn your gays” ending, not really. Besides, I also would not have loved a “send your gays to Alpha Centuri away from the earth and the humans they love” ending. Cause even though Crowley repeatedly talked about it, I don’t think they would have like that for very long. I think they would have missed earth eventually.
And I love the “they get to be human and do the things they always wanted and be happy together” ending. Anthony gets to ask questions and also find answers for them and Asa gets to live a cozy life among his books and good food. Sure, it’s not THEM them, but I think Crowley making this decision shows just how much he despises the system in which they were trapped in and how much he cares for humanity.
Plus Heaven and Hell - had they continued to exist - would still try to fight each other and destroy the earth eventually. That’s quite literally what their shtick is. Heaven and Hell exist to fight each other.
I think that was all for me. If you read through all of that, thank you. I know I always love reading comments and thoughts about this - may they be positive or negative.
I am still thankful that we got an ending at all, but I think the one thing we can all agree on is that their story would have needed 6 more episodes to come to a conclusion. And that - to me - is the most tragic thing about this ending.
Breaking my enstars posting streak because this is so Yurio coded
They really pulled a "you decided the universe is better off without you, but the universe doesn't agree". The universe looked out for them, in its own way. They lost all their history, all their shared experiences and memories, but they found each other again, because they were fundamental to the universe. They were and still are loved so much by so many, but they'll never know and they'll never have a chance to be together as the persons who saved the world and that is so emotionally devastating.
Yeah
