Hey, I was reading through your blog (and I have to say you're just great!), and I stumbled upon a mention of what you called "stim blog discourse", regarding to kink and swerfs. Could you elaborate on that? As an aspie I followed a lot of stim blogs and notice they often say "kinksters dont interact", whats all that about? (I havent been on tumblr for a few years, I guess I'm not up to date).

The shortest possible version of events is thus:

4chan raiders decided to fracture the tumblr queer community by making up an imaginary gender for child molesters, “clovergender.”

Because people on this website are godforsaken, they bought into that, and believed quite genuinely that there was a secret, massive conspiracy of child molesters on this website seeking to rape various underage users.

In the context of this conspiracy nonsense, antisexual radical feminists stepped in to advance their own goals, by suggesting that anyone who engages in certain forms of kink or reads certain types of fiction is one of these child-rapists-in-waiting.

Simultaneous to this development, the popularization of “stimboards” as an evolution of moodboards/aesthetic boards and “so satisfying” gifs occurred.

Stimboards were highly popular with two major groups (often overlapping): fandoms, and tumblr’s LGBTQIAPN+ population. 

Because those were the two groups that were also targetted by the antisexual radical feminists and by 4chan’s nonsense, stimboard makers were convinced that their art would be used to groom and rape children unless they “made sure” that it “couldn’t be” by putting up those banners.

However, because radical feminists had convinced these artists that the “real” child molesters were adults engaging in consensual relationships and/or “shippers,” the “preventative banners” mostly targetted those groups.

The irony that these people genuinely believe that the only thing between a rapist and their victim is a 15x500px banner is hilarious and deeply, deeply depressing.

ETA: Per first hand accounts from a member of the kidcore/cleancore community that pre-dated the stim community, it is important to note that internal politics were also a huge factor. Due to the overlap between people who age regress due to trauma or illness, and those who age regress in the context of kink, some people within the kidcore community found the existence of a kink that could be confused for their mental illness to be extremely upsetting, and elected to fight against that themselves.

While the 4chan and antisexual radical feminist influences were significant factors in the proliferation of this nonsense, they were not the only factors, nor the original cause of the first banners. The involvement of 4chan and radfems in the popularization of these banners is undeniable, however.

there is a huge difference between normalising stimming and aestheticising stimming. I want stimming normalised. I want nts to stim. if neurotypicals stim, it doesn't look weird when I do. that's normalising stimming. I DON'T want stimming aestheticised. if nts are only okay with stimming if it's pretty? that does jack fuck shit for autistic people. it doesn't matter if chewlery gets normalised if chewing it in public is still stigmatised! in fact, it could be looked at worse because it would be seen as destruction of something pretty. stimboards are great, I love them! but they don't normalise stimming when nts embrace them, because they aren't considering it anything weird. Enjoying the look of calligraphy being written is not stigmatised. slime is a children's toy, gifs of it aren't stigmatised. stimboards, to nts, are going to look like a relaxing breed of aesthetics and moodboards. That's fine. that's basically what they are. but I don't want that glorified as normalising of stimming when the nts embracing it don't know or care about the origin. Anyone can buy a stim toy if they want one, but if they still stigmatise nd people for using them? if they don't actually stim with them? that's not! normalising anything! when neurotypical people take something autistic people do to survive, ostracise autistic people for it, and fashion it into something they think is pretty for themselves to consume, that's not normalisation. And that is what they do every time! the "pretty" ways of stimming are normalised, and the "ugly" ways are stigmatised. autistic people are literally profiled as criminals on the streets for stimming publicly. it's a problem. so @neurotypicals: if you like stimboards, great! if you like the look of chewlery, cool! if you want stim toys but don't need them, cool! all of these things are fine! but you need to make sure that when you see someone stimming publicly, that you don't treat them differently. don't call them slurs. don't think that they should "know better" or that they're "up to no good". don't infantilise them. don't be a dick to neurodivergents. normalising stimming is a result of people not thinking stimming is abnormal. that's all you've gotta do to make a difference: change your perspective, and change that of others if your friends think poorly of us. it helps.

Irt to age gaps I personally like the divide your age by 90 and the number that comes up is the oldest you can date like ex a 19 year old could date a 21 year old, a 16 year old could date a 17.6 year old but you could round up to 18 etc etc

don’t use gifs from blogs that don’t allow interaction from groups your blog does (most commonly transmeds). 💖 it’s rude and you’re using their content for ppl they don’t consent to interaction/consumption of their content from. 💘 even if you’re not in their dni, this still goes for u if you have a blog safe for transmeds or other typical dni criteria. 💓 use gifs from blogs with similar if not the same dni’s or anyone can interact blogs, or make your own content. 💕 if you really like a particular gifset, go to the source and regif it. 💝 i also can gif it for you if you send me a pm. 💞
