What in Azriel’s bonus chapter led people to believe that staying away from Elain was easy for him?

We know from his POV that he’s been avoiding her for awhile. He avoided family dinners and avoided being in the same room with her, Lucien, and the mating bond. And this is how he described his emotional state during that year he’s forced himself to keep his distance from her:

Sleep so rarely found him these days.

Too many razor sharp thoughts sliced him anytime he grew still enough for them to strike.

Too many wants and needs left his skin overheated and pulling taut across his bones

So he slept only when his body gave out, and even then only for a few hours

Because her mate had been in the family room and Azriel had needed to stay by the door the whole time because he couldn’t stand the sight of it, the scent of their mating bond, and needed the option to leave if it became too much.

He only allowed himself these thoughts in the dead of night. Had only allowed his hand to fist his cock and think about her then, when even his shadows had gone to sleep.

Azriel has been staying away from Elain as much as possible and it started before solstice, not after. And by his own admission in the bonus he has been miserable, tortured by thoughts of her to the point where he only allows himself to think of her in the dead of night. He can’t be in the same room with her and the mating bond. His body feels like it’s being sliced open by razors when he does allow himself to think of Elain. The man is quite simply, utterly destroyed not being with her and thinks he doesn’t deserve her.

After solstice, Sarah said (even if it’s not canon in text) that Azriel put rocks in the snowballs because he was so angry and so pissed off at Rhys for ordering him to stay away from Elain. He literally wanted to physically hurt his high lord and brother lol. And then in ACOSF, Nesta says that days after solstice Azriel is “more” stone faced and aloof than usual. Which for a character who is already pretty closed off, he must have been really upset to be more closed off than usual.

So again I’m wondering what makes people think that staying away from Elain is easy, because based on everything we got in Azriel’s pov the man is finding it anything but easy to stay away from her. In fact it sounds like torture for him
