(this is such a cool idea!) Serafina walks into the Lantern Cafe with a swirl of the cloak and the look of someone who's not had a good night's sleep in years. 'I require a double espresso,' she says, infernal accent strong. 'With an extra shot.' Once he coffee is safely in her hands, she looks at the barista with interest. 'So. I hear that you know things about the future. Please, how big a tip must I give for some enlightenment?'
Eoin turns to Serafina and gives a bit of a shrug.
“Whatever you’ve got on hand, I guess. We run kind of a flexible establishment, so long as you pay for your coffee.” He steps away, then produces a dented tin can labeled “tips” from behind the counter. If Serafina looked inside, she’d see coins of all sorts, but stranger currency too: some glass beads on a string, a tiny rolled-up scroll, and what looked like quite a large shark tooth, among other oddities. “Management says it’ll all come in useful later, or something. They, uh, don’t tell me too much.”
Eoin takes a seat beside Serafina and reaches into their apron pocket for their tarot deck. “So…we’re looking at the future, right?” he asks. “I’ve just been told that legally, I have to tell you while doing this, I’m not responsible for the choices you make after getting a reading from me? But with that out of the way, let’s see what we got.” They shuffle the cards a few times, and then draw three. “We’ll start with these,” says Eoin, drawing the Ten of Clubs, Three of Diamonds, and Two of Clubs. He winces at the first of these.
“I guess you really needed that espresso,” Eoin quips. “This card says to me that you’re exhausted, and if you don’t let yourself catch a break, it’s gonna catch up to you big-time. You’ve got huge responsibilities (great power and all that), but damn, you need a break. Guess you’re not alone there…” They give a wry smile.
“Anyways, the next card is a better sign, I think. With the Three of Diamonds, you’ve got a bit of stability. Even pushed to the breaking point in the Ten of Clubs’ trials, you can rebuild and work with those around you. That promises success in your future if you work at it.” Eoin lifts up the last card before reading it, intrigued.
“I think there’s a kindred spirit in your future, or maybe they’re already here. They can match you wit for wit; there’s a spark that maybe you don’t find very often. Keep them close. Or find others who are like you, so you’re not carrying so much on your own. It’s up to you, I suppose.”
With that, Eoin leaves the cards out, just for a few minutes, while he wipes down a nearby table. Serafina should have the chance to contemplate them for herself, they think.
