One year ago from today I went under the knife to remove another small portion of my intestines that was fully of scar tissue and causing blockage problems.

One year ago from today was a major step in my life as I had fought for so long to avoid another surgery.

One year ago from today that surgery took a turn for the worst.

One year ago from today my family was forced to make a life saving, ever life changing decision for me.

One year ago from today, after being in surgery for nearly 8 hours, I woke up to my worst nightmare... My surgeon telling me that I had an Ostomy Bag.

One year ago from today I thought my life was over.

And TODAY, today I can say that I am as healthy as I have ever been. This last year has been an emotional roller-coaster, but I've been able to do things I never thought I would be able to. At this point I still don't know if I will every be able to have a reversal surgery, but until then I am going to continue living life to the absolute fullest.

That moment when ...

You're sitting at your desk, working away, minding your own business and a familiar, yet unwelcome tingling sensation (more like acid burning and itching) comes from around your stoma.  

You think, "No, couldn't possibly have leaked.  I just put a new wafer on this morning."  So you go to check, and of course today has to be a day that you're wearing clothes where access is not ideal.  Once you peel a few layer of clothing away, you discover that YES INDEED Stormy Stoma has struck and there a sticky mess right around your belly button.  Thankfully; however, there is nothing on your clothes as of yet.  

Off to the restroom you go with you handy dandy, Betsy Johnson clutch with all of the necessary supplies.  Thankfully, the building has a separate handicap restroom which makes having to strip partially out of your clothes in order to not make a mess of yourself, just a little easier.  Might I also add that this is shortly after lunch and there is quite a lot of activity going on down there.

Well... sometimes you gotta do, what you gotta do.  Crisis averted and I'm back to work for the afternoon!  Stormy and I will be having a heart to heart later on proper public behavior.
