Watched Strange Circus today. It's a really good movie, but man is it fucked up. It reminded me of Audition at the end. (Spoilers under the cut).

At first I was put off by the amount of nudity/sex scenes. But in context, it made sense because it was from the perspective of an abuser trying to justify her actions/stay in denial by eroticizing everything.

The visuals were fantastic at portraying how a child views the world after an extremely traumatic event. Poor Mitsuko...

I just got done watching Strange Circus

I really don’t know what to say

trying to watch a movie every night. decided to start off with the most insane, intense, graphic movies you can possibly come up with.

Strange Circus (Sion Sono, 2007): 10/10, wouldn’t recommend to anyone unless they can stomach graphic on screen CSAM and gore. The narrative is immaculate, the visual metaphors and surreal style are incredible and gorgeous, an insane unreliable narrator, the acting and writing and directing and editing… just amazing. but you have to watch a 12yo girl get r*ped by her father while she’s narrating “he would rape me and mom would watch.” stomach churning. insane. beautifully made.

Dogtooth (Yorgos Lanthimos, 2009): Another soul bending masterpiece. The acting is phenomenal. The long, still, ultra wide shots that only show one character’s side of a conversation. The world he built, you feel like a fly on the wall watching the story unfold. It’s a character-driven, world-building piece, and not so plot-heavy. Reminds me of The Village by M. Night Shyamalan, in the best way. (I am a Shyamalan defender. If he has no fans that means I am dead, etc) Not even sure if I could rate this one. Just a snapshot into a bizarre, isolating world. Excellent.

Horror guys I love!! I unfortunately forgot Pinhead who is still one of my favourites... The guy with the chainsaw is Yuji from Strange Circus who is very obscure but a major favourite :)
