I’m having a seriously hard time with Jen Larson’s book. Throughout her journey with weight loss surgery, she flagrantly (or ignorantly) broke most of the rules. I know that this is a personal narrative and not written as any kind of guide for WLS, but I shutter to think of anyone reading this and getting the impression that you can loose weight healthily while being so irresponsible: She … - Didn’t follow the surgeon’s requirement to loose weight before surgery on order to shrink her liver and, as a result, her surgery was two hours longer than need be - Ate sugar, sticky starches, and straight out junk. - Binged frequently, hurting herself, yet didn’t learn. - Drank alcohol , often and to excess, although she stated that she was told so many of us become alcoholic. - Didn’t quit smoking as she swore to her surgeon she would. - Took her vitamins “sometimes”
Through all of this irresponsible behavior- she lost and lost and lost through malabsorption of her duodenal switch procedure which seems to have just fueled her recklessness. I’m on chapter 38/42 - if she doesn’t end up in a hospital with malnutrition soon, then I call bullshit!
