To me, byler ended in episode 5. Hear me out, I don´t mean it in the way you think
I dont mean in the way that it is doomed and over, but in the way that this was the last time felt natural and true. For me, it ended when Mike ran up to Will, hugged him and when he was so incredibly proud and enthusiastic. That is where they could have taken off with their romance, it was the ideal set up for Mike to reveal his feelings after he just had this intense realization, and he definetly has thats not up for debate. He had the final revelation in ep. 4.
Byler is real.
I am no longer debating if it is or if it isn´t, I only debate if the writers pull through with it, if they act on what they intentionally set up. To me it is not a question wether Mike and Will have a romantic coded relationship or if they don´t; they do. Mike is written to be queer, I dont discuss this anymore, his feelings towards Will are homorerotic and it is intentional and obvious. The decision to not follow up on it is a whole other thing.
If you take away one thing from this whole ordeal, let it be that you were right. We were right. Don´t let us depend on the people in power who write the ending, don´t doubt the precise and incredibly intelligent analysis of Mike´s character and his relationship with Will that our community has so intensely worked for.
We were right and we will always be, no matter what happened or what is still coming.
this whole volume feels like a badly written fanfiction if the show was cancelled after vol1
crazy for the actors too btw
specifically the queer actors!! the out ones being amybeth and noah . wow. that had to. i mean specifically noah, right, and any of the other guys who’ve been there since day 1 who haven’t publically labelled. ow !!!! that’s got to hurt !!! the duffer brother gave them. a shitty end arc, they had to settle, finn was OFF SCREEN, and they gave noah the painting why?? what did that represent. #thefinalehadbettercarry
the coming out scene wasn’t the only shitty part of vol2 and i think that a lot of people are making a mistake in assuming that byler is all that is at stake with these last few episodes.
yes. the coming out scene was actually pretty horrible. no doubt in my mind. but it was needed and noah (as well as charlie and maya) acted their asses off.
that being said i need people to come off their high horses and take a look at these episodes from a critical lens. it was bad!! like really bad!! we have already noticed the terrible writing, sub-par plot, HUGE inconsistencies surfacing post-s4 (with many more predating), unresolved and/or neglected characters arcs, a surplus of characters, plot armour, bad direction (heavy on this in vol2), bad editing and cgi, misleading marketing and MORE.
this doesn’t mean that the show is bad btw. I LOVE IT WITH ALL MY LIFE. it means so so much to me.
this isn’t just about byler, it encompasses years of accumulated bad decisions. and vol2 has served as an avalanche, if you will.
obviously many more people have said this more evidenced and eloquently than i have but what i’m trying to say is: please don’t feel as though you must perform satisfaction out of spite or, especially, for the sake of other viewers.
media is meant to be analysed and it doesn’t make us bad people for doing so— this is what we’ve been doing since the dawn of our sub-fandom.
let’s please not resort to either extreme of giving glowing reviews or spamming extreme negative feedback (unless you actually believe in your rating— in which case, go on!) and actually take everything about an episode into account!!!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND BYLER ENDGAME !!!!
WE'RE SO CLOSE TO THE LOST SISTER EPISODE
Keep it going everyone I need to see it being 5.0
Episode 5 and 6 weren’t that awful I had a few complaints but I liked it for the most part. EPISODE 7 WAS A GENUINE SHIT SHOW IM SO PISSED YO😭.
So much unnecessary dialogue between characters, under developed characters, UNNECESSARY CHARACTERS LIKE AM I TWEAKING OR DID RHAT EPISODE SUCK.
As upset as I am in the moment, Mike Wheeler has SHIT in that brain of his and he BETTER SPEAK UP NEXT WEEK.
He for sure knows about Will's feelings, Will literally said TWO THINGS IN HIS COMING OUT SCENE that he ALSO SAID IN THE VAN.
MIKE CAN PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER AND REALIZE WILL'S FEELINGS + THE PAINTING AND S A Y S O M E T H I N G TO HIM
