Couch

“All you do is lounge on that couch all day!” Nathan’s mother would yell. Nathan paid no attention and continuing to veg, flipping through the channels that illuminated the room. “You’re going to become a couch potato!” Again, Nathan thought nothing of it and continued to do what he liked best, nothing.  With no ambition in life, Nathan slouched on the couch all day and watched TV.  It was almost an all day event; up in the morning, go to the couch and watch the tube, afternoon still there until night when he went to bed. Nathan would get up to relieve himself and eat.  Sometimes he’d bring the food to the couch though and if there was a non-gross way to use the bathroom from the couch he would have done it.  All day Nathan sat and watched TV. One weekend Nathan saw no movement.  He had not been very hungry and did not have to go so he stayed on the couch for almost 72 hours.  He fell asleep and woke up the next morning.  Hunger stroke and Nathan wanted to finally get up.  Yet when he tried he couldn’t move. Nathan tried to get up, but he was stuck there.  Moving around he could not find a reason.  Looking around Nathan saw his legs had become rooted to the couch.  He was literally stuck to it. The couch was part of him or he was part of the couch, rather. Nathan panted being scared of his wits.  He was about to scream for help until he felt water pouring over him. It was from his mom pouring a water can on him.  She said, “Hold still, honey! I need to make sure you grow more before I decided to peel your skin and boil you.” Terrified Nathan cried, “What?! Mom, why are you doing this?! What’s wrong with me?!” “I told you, you’d become a couch potato!”
