⭐️HIP AIRPLANE MODIFIED⭐️ . Here my client and mate, Andy, performing a modified version of the "hip airplane" made popular by Professor Stu McGill, arguably the most well known spine-biomechanics specialist in the planet! . 🍀There is not need to be injured to include this movement in your training program. In fact is an awesome warm up for specific sports like tennis, running, football, weightlifting, golf, etc. . 🍀This tailored version for Andy implies a foundation level where both right hip and shoulder "learn" work together as compact unit while the torso rotation takes place. . 🍀There are 2 reasons to have a bench as a point of reference: 1️⃣the need for creating suficiente synchronisation and endurance of the motion pattern; 2️⃣Encourages hip adduction (facilitated by the hip flexion). McGill's airplane encourages internal and external of the hip (no hip hinge). . 🍀As a result, when well performed, both the standing and the elevating leg can achieve "that" nice burn, particularly in gluteus medius, piriformis and even QL. . 🍀 Once that foundation level is mastered, the next step will be removing the bench so as to add the benefit of balance adaptation while steering own body-loading during external rotation of the hip. . 🍀 Ah, of course, the gluteal musculature and lumbar stabilisers are the ones getting most of the activation. If that's not your case, review your form. Try it and let us know how you go. Happy to discuss. . ⭐️ #hip #lowback #glutes #hiprotation #hipadduction #balance #stuartmcgill @backfitpro #arias #willarias #willariasclients #qtxtraining #qtxclients #armadale #melbourne #core #torso #lumbar #lowerback (at QTX Training Studio)
