REMEMBERING SOMETHING YOU FORGOT TO PASS OFF IN REPORT
Im an mature aged student studying to be an Registered Nurse in Melbourne, Australia is crazy during COVID-19 times. I'm in my 2nd year in a Bachelor Nursing degree.
It's such a crazy year! 3 weeks into the semester & we've had 3x 20% tests & have an assignment worth 30% due next week. Overwhelming is an understatement. Anyone else overwhelmed studying this year?!

~*Just another day in the life: RN student*~
Today was actually a pretty good day! We had clinicals today and for some reason I kept hitting all the green lights while I was driving to the site location, so it felt like a good sign that today was going to be a good day.
I woke up at like 5:55 and then got dressed. Typical anime style roll out lol I just brushed my teeth, got ready, grabbed my lunch, and left the door with a sandwich hanging off the side of my mouth rushing to get to my car. I left around 6:20 listening to “Binibini,” by zack tabudlo, my new current fav song to listen to. I don’t really listen to tagalog songs, but this one freakin’ opened up my mind. Sooo soothing. Got me to listen to more Filipino artists and it’s great. I’m happy I can somehow connect to my culture with music.
Anyway.... I drove to the site just listening to that song the whole way there lol. I tried singing along but I promise you I can pronounce Japanese songs waaaaay better than Tagalog in general. My tagalog accent sounds korean apparently. ;’(
So yeah I got to the site, waved hi to friends, we all walked in together and signed in. That rude mean lady signing us in made Madison say, “I HATE her” under her breath and we all laughed. We got our assignments and then did our rounds at the facility. I saw Derick again and he shook his head the moment he saw me lol almost as if saying, “Not you again!” I shook my head back at him, but I was glad to see him. Something to make the experience bearable and fun.
I didn’t get to pass meds today, but I collected all my info I needed for my last care plan and then later got to do a Head-to-toe (HTT) assessment on my patient by myself! (w/o my teacher supervising me). Super proud of myself!! I didn’t hit everything on my list, but I hit the majority of it. My patient was really sweet too. And when I finished, her daughter came in and surprised her! Great timing. I left and said my goodbyes to her, wished her well for her future discharge that I won’t be there for.
I notified my friends and teacher that I did the HTT by myself, and they were like wow! That’s where you were! We were looking for you! We already had lunch. You did a HTT?! And I was like “I know right?! I didn’t know I was actually going to do it! I was like, ‘Oh okay? We’re really doing this’ when I got to her room.” Ahahah
Later on, Shelly and I got to watch a male patient get a foley catheter! The four of us had to rock-paper-scissors for it tho LOL. Anyway, that was great experience to see and learn from since it was my first time seeing that! I watched the RN’s technique and that was pretty cool. She had some difficulty getting it in tho and that just made me think like, ‘yes. this is the real world. it’s okay to not get it in right away.’ She had to call for another nurse to help her with it. The 2nd nurse was able to get it in but unfortunately, urine got sprayed on both of them XD (LOL). Luckily, I was standing in the back during that moment. Shelly ALMOST got hit with it LOL. Anyway, I just remember laughing so much. I’m happy I got to see something we have been learning recently so soon. (And I guess I can say this, but I’m happy I got to be the one to see it. I feel like out of my clinical group, I am the one who is most active to learn because I personally just have an interest in learning as much as I can! So the opportunity to learn something like that didn’t go to waste haha).
After that, we just practiced HTT. I made my friends laugh while Shelly was practicing on me. I was being a little weird, but hey - gotta do what you can to stay sane in this program! Hahaha
I didn’t get to say bye to Derick today, but I did ask him some questions about my patient earlier and he was actually pretty nice to me and answered my questions lol.
In the end, we left early (around 13:20 ish?) and I drove home listening to binibini again and admiring the spring flowers and blue skies. I hit all green lights again with no traffic.
For the past 20 years I was proud to say that I've never had my heart broken, but then I remember that on March 25th, 2015 (2 days before my 21st birthday) Zayn Malik torn my heart out, ripped it to pieces, and left it to bleed. Fast forward to July 2015 and I was healing perfectly well until Louis Tomlinson decided to open my wounds up and perform a proper fatality. Fast forward to October 2015, I'm in Nursing School freaking the fuck over for any news on One Direction while I perform vitals on my patients while seeming perfectly calm and collected. These boys have ruined me. I regret nothing.
Any nursing students should message me!! I've not been to sleep in two days and I had a full day of clinical labs. I'm so exhausted and I'm trying to stay away so that I sleep all the way through tonight. Help😡
Dear nurses: don't tell me I'm the future of nursing and that you'd want me add your nurse and then promise to fill in my paperwork some mythical tomorrow!
