Applying: Keio University
Background
In September of 2018, I’ll be heading to Japan to spend a year as an exchange student on the Keio International Programme at Keio University. Hopefully this blog will keep my family and friends updated whilst I’m away, serve as a time capsule of my time in Japan for years to come, and help anyone thinking of moving to Japan (whether for a year abroad, or permanently) prepare for their time abroad.
Heads up: I’m currently a student at the University of Birmingham, and have just completed my second year studying B.Sc Psychology.
Timeframe for Applying
October - November:
Start thinking about the possibility of studying abroad, and where you’d like to study. For me, this was easy - I’d always wanted to go to Japan, and got special consideration to apply exclusively to Japanese universities. Most UK universities require you to apply to a wide range of countries (it’s all about the experience blah blah...).

I submitted my application with Ewha yesterday. Today, I was checking my application portal and was so happy to see that I have been accepted. They are so fast!!! I was given a student number and a letter of admission that I need to print out. I just have to wait until July for the admission package to be sent to my home university and then apply for my visa. Yay!!
Update 18.04.05
This week, I’ve received an email from my home university advising me that application for Fall 2018 to Ewha Womans University (EWU) is opening on 15th April. They also forwarded me the forms I need to complete for the application, including an Agreement and the Medical Clearance Form.
So, for the Medical Clearance Form, I need to visit a doctor and have a tuberculosis test (or Mantoux test). It has been years and years since I last have my needles, so I am extremely nervous to get them done this weekend. Hopefully, it won’t cause too much of a pain. I am aiming to get my application done as soon as possible that that I have a higher chance of securing a place at dorms.
I am getting so excited. If any of you are going to EWU for exchange in Fall 2018, shoot me a message. Let’s be friends!
Until next time! :)

A few days ago, I received an email from the Study Exchange Office advising me that they could not allocate me to any of my three preferences. Because of the agreement between my home university and Korea University, no students can go to KU next year. They could not send me to either Maastricht University or University of Tokyo because the law school does not have these universities as options for law students. I feel so stupid for not knowing that haha.
They then provided three alternative options and asked me to make a decision. One of those was Ewha Women’s University. While I was researching about South Korea, I found that Ewha Women’s University is quite good and the campus is also very beautiful. So I decided to go with Ewha Women’s University as an alternative option. I was advised that they will get back with applicants by January to inform whether they nominate us to the university. Hopefully, everything goes well and I get my nomination.
