longer more detailed episodes with very casual Japanese! they explain some of the vocab they use while speaking (especially slang) and have a vocab list at the end that they go over with a link to read along!

great for shadowing practice with a few listening exercises mixed in. perfect if you are using the genki series!

Why you need to learn Kanji

In hiragana: すももももも ももももも すもももももももものうち。

In kanji: 李も桃、桃も桃、李も桃も桃のうち。

The translation: A Japanese plum is a peach, a peach is also a peach, both Japanese plums and peaches are a kind of peach.

Where to get books with furigana

Reading novels in Japanese can be a real challenge if your reading flow comes to a stop every time you encounter a kanji you can’t read, so getting a book with 100% furigana can help cutting back on that frustration.

There are several Japanese publishers with a younger target audience, whose books all have furigana on every kanji while still presenting complex and interesting stories about 150 – 300 pages long.

They are my top recommendation for all intermediate readers, who already have experience with graded readers, easy childrens stories or manga, but have yet to read a longer novel aimed at native speakers.

How to Tell Apart 木 and 本 in Japanese

木 means "tree." Think of the middle stroke as the trunk, the horizontal stroke as a branch, and the slanted strokes as leaves.

本 means "book." It's the same tree, but cut near the bottom to make paper... which becomes a book.

weird question,but does anyone have any advice on how to think of things to talk about when you're trying to learn a new language? I'm trying to get better at Japanese by posting on HelloTalk everyday, but I've fallen behind because I just can't think of anything to post about?
