I want to have a studyblr but I can’t afford all the fancy stationery
I read a reddit post about studyblr’s the other day and it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. The posters were basically saying studyblr is all about aesthetic rather than studying.
Now, many were fighting the studyblr corner, however it got me thinking and I started doing some googling, trying to see how common this thought process was.
I discovered that some people really wanted to start a studyblr but were scared to because they thought they wouldn’t fit in, they didn’t have a mac book, couldn’t afford midliners and staedtler pens. I was shocked because I never once felt like I couldn’t join in because I couldn’t afford fancy stationery. And I got by on Studyblr just fine. So to all of you out here stalking the studyblr tag thinking I wish I could join in but my handwriting sucks, I’m too poor to afford a moleskine or a leuchtturm and all the fancy pens, I say don’t!
I started my studyblr with store brand stationery from my local supermarket, I asked my dad to get me a pack of coloured pens and he brought home a £3.00 pack of fineliners, similar colours to the ten pack of staedtler triplus but they were duller in colour and a bit scratchy. But you know what I loved them more than I love my staedtler pens, I was actually super disappointed when I found a pack of them on sale at Tesco for £4.00, brought them home all to find they have horribly inconsistent ink flow.
What I’m trying to say is that you are welcome here no matter what your background, this is still Tumblr, a melting pot where everyone is welcome. I used my budget phone to take pictures of my cheap notebooks with my scrawly handwriting in my house with crappy lighting, and that didn’t stop people liking my pictures, following my blog and reaching out to help me in my studies unsolicited. Honestly one person figured out I was doing A-Level psychology and messaged me asking if I wanted to use a song he had recorded to help me remember case studies. I was so shocked but grateful and I used the hell out of that recording.
These days I’m employed and can afford nicer stationery, all my studying paid off, and I got here without the fancy stationery and you will too.
ps; I still have crappy handwriting, no expensive pen will change that.
