monday, may 13th 2024

bro how are we already almost halfway through may? today is data collections from 8:30am-2pm and then a meeting from 2-3pm to discuss IRB stuff.

this week, i'm really hoping to finish this IRB form and finalize my overall objective & hypothesis for my F31. wish me luck!

also, all my final grades were finalized friday and although i'm not happy with the grade i got in neural engineering, i'm still meeting program requirements & i can say that i learned something new while still giving it my best shot.

I feel like I've been preparing for this interview more than actual classwork, but to be fair, I don't have a ton of classwork rn. I guess it's fine.

Got assigned my first hw assignment for Process Control just now and it looks like it should be interesting. I'm very much looking forward to relaxing this weekend with a touch of productivity that isn't spinning my wheels over interview questions.

24 JULY

I haven’t been as productive as I would like to be in regards to my fellowship and graduate school applications. I think moving across the country has a big part to do with it...and I’ve been here for almost 2 full months. After coming home from research lab, I’ve mostly been relaxing and practicing self care but I think I need to return to being more disciplined with my time in regards to academics.

It also doesn’t help that I literally just went through this process less than a year ago... so I think my brain just wants a break. I will continue to give myself grace, but I will also be reimplementing some structure. I want this application season to go well, I want to be less stressed throughout the Fall semester, so I need to restart the grind.

So, I started today by officially writing the first draft of my personal statement for the NSF GRFP. Gotta start somewhere right?

i successfully completed my first headplate surgery yesterday and today when I checked on my mouse, he was alive and well! i gave him his pain meds and he went on about his merry way :)

i have a presentation i need to work on and finish before August 28 and then I have 2 more practice surgeries to do. and classes start on the 22nd. busy busy busy busy

let's be real, i'm never really done applying for things. there's another fellowship at UF that i'm interested in and there's a separate application for it...so guess what i'm cranking out before Wednesday? lol yep. luckily, its not complicated and i'm used to writing these types of essays.

i refuse to work on Wednesday, so lab is today and tomorrow. then we're FREE until early/mid january.

its my birth month! hello august! my birthday is tomorrow and i’m .. probably just going to get ice cream to celebrate. not exactly what i want but a happy medium :)

i got copies of the 2 major textbooks in my lab so i can do some of my readings at home and its been beneficial for me. in the coming weeks, i’ll be presenting a paper in my lab for our lil journal club, finishing animal trainings, and starting to perform surgeries! ahhhh such a busy month. so exciteddd. i also might find my way to chicago again but that’s veryyy up in the air.

oh! and i just moved into my very first apartment that’s my ownnnn, i live on my oWN. ah. so much is happening. enjoy this photo of me reading about the cytology of neurons.
