worked on an application essay in the courtyard yesterday and listened to the torrential downpour, very peaceful

my first year of grad school will be challenging in more ways than one and a true test of my time management. i expressed this concern to my soon-to-be PI and they told me to remember "the time where your grades matter has passed. just do the bare minimum to get credit for the class" and thats honestly helpful. like i know how to direct my attention for my coursework, and they also gave me tips on time blocking for lab, etc etc.

it'll be an adjustment and there will definitely be a rough transition period the first couple months, but i know i've got this. do you all have any tips??

excel, my old friend! using excel to create this interesting look plot for a lab member's publication, whoop whoop. i wish there was a faster way to do this that didn't require learning completely new software or coding languages like R

april 30

end of the month means monthly reflection time. april felt like the least chaotic month of 2023 so far, and i'm NOT complaining lol. this month was really fun and also a bit academically challenging in ways i wasn't expecting, but am grateful for. the semester is over, my first graduate level class is DONE, and i'm learning new and cool things in research lab.

may will be another month of wonder but of definitely more chaos! looking forward to doing what i can for this optogenetics set up before i leave and attending end-of-the-year events like our recognition luncheon!

i have a quiz coming up this weekend on this paper and i feel pretty confident :) how's everyone doing about a month into the semester??

i know for me, neural systems is going well but my python certificate course is rough. i got caught up on one assignment and its just made me fall behind. but i'm just going to do my best and try to catch up! stupid for loops...

spring break was amazing! road tripped across the country and ate so much good food along the way. still deciding between graduate schools but i think i know who i'm going to pick... just waiting on one more thing.

i feel recharged and excited to finish the semester! also, i got into a summer research program at The University of Michigan and I accepted! I can't wait <3

our weekly seminar discussions on social determinants of health always bring me so much joy!

this week is going to be busyyy because i’m going to start my survey project and i need to create a figure plot for someone in my lab & their publication. a week full of learning and growth :)

being in Michigan has been great. i’ve been trying new things, finding my community, and making the best of the summer. for example, started going to bar trivia and its so much fun. this week, i’ll be trying tennis because someone in my cohort wants to play and nobody else is down LOL
