guess who was so angry abt the recent mulan news that she actually changed her sign for the first time in like,, six months? this girl!! anyway i’m high-key hoping that twitter outrage will pressure disney into fixing this mess but if u wanna hear more about the situation, i wrote a lil rant below. 

what’s happening:

as if taking out the songs wasn’t bad enough (reflection is so important!! and erasing i’ll make a man out of you is a literal injustice smh), li shang might be replaced by some dude named commander tung who is apparently a complete jerk to mulan till he finds out she’s a girl and suddenly views her as a love interest. also there’s going to be a witch, a sister, no mushu and some hidden magic power within mulan before training. um what?? i was so excited for this movie bc it’s a disney classic and it means so much to a lot of ppl and good asian rep is so freaking rare in hollywood but the direction they’re headed seems so contradictory to the original---mulan was strong bc she worked hard, not bc of magic or a guy. the girl did it on her own. and li shang managed to be a genuinely interesting and masculine love interest w/o being a bully (not to mention the potential bi rep) and they’re replacing him with...the complete antithesis of that. beauty & the beast / cinderella made some minimal changes but kept most of the story and the heart of the story the same, so why is there a double standard for mulan? there are already so few asian musicals. why do they have to take this too?

Hey @studypsy ! I’m sorry my answer took so long; life has been crazy. An anthropologist can do a whole PLETHORA of things, as we have four different subfields that do very different things. Largely, the field studies humans in every different capacity. Human history, human culture, human language, human biology, human evolution...etc. Most anthropologists conduct research and so they work at universities, but others are employed by the government or other organizations. It really depends on what your subfield is. Let me know if you have any more specific questions!
