Heyoooo everyoneee! So i am back with another masterpost collab with Chinmay from @studyruels! Mine is about studying maths and Chinmay's is about liberal arts, so check it out here!
Okay the first thing you have to know about maths might come out as weird but trust me, it's like that. Maths is like a language - it's a tool. It's something you use to describe various ideas and solve complex problems. The structure is different from any language you'll learning, but maths is simply a lanugage. That means you have to treat it like that and "think in it".
The second thing i want to mention are three… let's say universal truths about maths (don't mind complex numbers and other weird things), which you should keep in mind and they might help you in solving various types of problems:
The world is composed of triangles (search for either a right-angled triangle or isosceles triangle - you can "divide it in half" to have two right triangles)
Every number is a product of mutliplication (either multiplication by 1 or multyplying two numbers to get a final one, multiplication plays a huge role in mathematical operations)
Dividing by zero is pointless (this is pretty obvious right? But everyone makes mistakes in it :'D make sure the denominator in any fraction doesn't equal zero!)
Other things to keep in mind :
you can't make a square root of a negative number (except i^2 in complex numbers, but don't mind that)
Tha same thing goes to any number on the second power - it can't be negative (again, except complex numbers)
If you're doing some geometry and you're slightly confused, connect the points (that sometimes helps :D)
0! = 1 (there is actually a logical explanation to that :D i'm not gonna say it here but ya know, just keep that in mind :D)
Okay so now about the actual studying part~
Pay attention to what the teacher is saying in class (!!!). Take detailed notes of the topic you do, the problems you solve in class and their explanation.
Review your material carefully after school.
SOLVE PROBLEMS!!! Maths is all about practice; the more you do, the better you get.
If you don't understand something, ask! Never hesitate to ask your teacher.
Also, studying with your schoolmates might help - you can explain each other the concepts and because you're all from a certain age group, you might understand it better from them than from your teacher.
I recommend using internet resources, especially Khan Academy, which is like the most amazing thing ever~~ everything is so neatly explained, along with solved questions and another set of practice questions which is amazing and it really helps, trust me :3
That's all from me ^^ I hope this was helpful; if you ever have any questions, please drop me an ask :3 also check out Chinmay's masterpost about studying liberal arts here!
