Occasionally when I let my mind wander back to the Myers briggs type theory it bothers me that I cannot get my true type anymore regardless of how many times I take the test, not to mention how many versions of the test I have taken. I almost always test as INTP now, which obviously couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s just bothersome to know that the test (in all of its forms, online and otherwise) is that seriously flawed. Yet this is how most people have come to define themselves. It’s irksome that a personality theory can be so fleshed out with different layers and cognitive functions and yet not have a reliable/accurate system of attributing where an individual should lie on its scale.

It’s laughable to me how a test could assume I would ever use Ti and Fe in my regular cognitive decision making process. But because of the way I see myself, the influences I have in my inner circle, and the complete disregard of cognitive functions in almost all the online tests, I continually turn up as a type so inherently opposite of what I know myself to be.

I understand that this is all a pseudo-science anyway and that for these obvious reasons no one should put too much stock into it, but this discrepancy has been nagging at me of late. I just wish that an entire personality theory with so much thought put into it could come up with a more accurate typing system. It’s really quite a shame.
