Oh my god I'm so late to this - ♠️
For the event, I'd please like a letter from Subaki sent to the F!Reader he is enamored with. They're not in a relationship, but last time they were in the heat of battle, Subaki accidentally slashed her side with his naginata.
So now reader is in the medical tent being tended to by Sakura (whom has put her on bedrest for the next few days). Not being able to leave, she writes to Subaki in an attempt to assure him that she's fine. He received a letter saying that the reader understood it was an accident, and that she had forgiven him.
Thanks! Excited to see what you write for him!
He'd be so freaking out over this for sure...
~
Dear Y/N
I'm happy to hear that you're in good health. Unfortunately while I know that you've forgiven me, I cannot forgive myself. My mistake could've taken your life!
I haven't been able to stop worrying, but of course I didn't abandon my duties. However my performance has worsened. At first I thought it was due to my imperfect work with my weapon that made me loose faith in my abilities. Deep down I knew the real reason from the very beginning but only now did I think of sharing my conclusion.
While I rather say this kind of thing in person, I still fear that I cannot face you after what I've done to you, hence me writing this letter. I have feelings for you. Knowing that I hurt woman whom I love so much is unacceptable, that's why I haven't been able to focus. Perhaps my timing is imperfect, at the same time I do not wish to hide those feelings from you any longer. As to when I'll want you to respond, let's talk about it after lady Sakura heals you fully. Hopefully by that time I'll be able to cope with my actions.
See you then,
Subaki
As you stepped into the courtyard, you could already see the two pegasi that a redhead was holding the reins of-the mystical horses shuffled and whinnied at first, but as you got closer, you noticed that the rider was softly petting each one of them and reassuring them in a gentle voice. That sight alone would be enough to make your heart flutter, but as Subaki turned and saw you and flashed a winning smile, you knew that the rest of this outing-er, date-was going to be nothing less than perfect, just like the man who orchestrated it.
“There you are-and lovely as always, I see. I’ve brought us some beautiful pegasi to use, and afterwards, I’ve got plans for dinner. How does cabbage and potato miso sound?”
The way he stood in place between the horses, and how put-together and clean he looked, would likely make one think that he had a handle on everything-but by now you knew that sparkling look in his eye, and you could tell he was nervous.
“That sounds delicious-I had no idea you could cook, Subaki.”
Pride flashed in his gaze, and he subconsciously puffed out his chest.
“I can whip up anything you so desire, my dear-just say the word, and I’ll bring out my cooking pot!”
The two of you laughed, and finally, it was time to mount your pegasi for a scenic fly. Subaki held on to the pegasus for you to hop on-but no matter how many times you set your foot in the stirrups, and tried to pull yourself up, she reared up and shook you away. You could tell that your date was getting more flustered by the minute of his pegasus not co-operating, but finally you had to give in and plant two feet back on the ground. As soon as he let go the creature took off running back to the stables-but before he could stammer out an apology, you held up a hand to silence him.
“Perhaps, if she doesn’t mind, we could just ride together..?”
You sowed the idea into his head, and with a quick pause it grew into a plan. Subaki’s confidence returned and he helped you atop his mount, hopping on in front to grab hold of the reins. A pleasant shiver ran down his spine as your reached around his abdomen, and held on to him firmly to keep your balance.
“R-Right…and, we’re off!”
With a running start, the beast took off the ground with its powerful wings and soared into the air, and you could feel Subaki chuckle as you clung to him even tighter while so high up.
“Trust me, I won’t let you fall-you’re safe with me, lovely.”
He glanced over his shoulder to see you gazing longingly out over the sky, looking down to see the people rushing about in the world below. Some waved up to you as you flew over Shirasagi town, and it brought an even bigger smile to his face when he noticed you waving back.
“It’s beautiful up here, Subaki. Now I understand why you would want to be a sky knight…”
He flicked the reins and the pegasus dipped further down to the ground below, so you could see the town even closer and livelier in the daytime.
“Yes. Hana is so talented with a sword, and Lady Sakura is a healer herself-besides that, I saw that she looked up to her elder sister, so I suppose I wanted to be that sort of person to her. Someone she could look up to, and put her trust in.”
As the ride became smoother, and his pegasus started tiring out from the double load, Subaki began to make his descent, seemingly thinking over what he wanted to say next.
“You know, I’d like to be that person for you, too. If…it’s not too bold of me to say.”
Even so, he had a grin on his face, and you waited as the mount came back down and slowed to a trot before you decided to answer.
“Well, maybe if you fell off your horse a little less…”
The colour drained from his face and he looked wounded, but thankfully it didn’t last long as you started laughing.
“I’m just teasing, Subaki. I think you’re a wonderful role model for Sakura-and, let’s face it, you’ve helped me out plenty on the battlefield. I really rely on you.”
That seemed to grant him even more confidence than before-and once the two of you had dismounted, and you gave the pegasus a little pat on the head, Subaki was cupping your face with his hands. Before you could react he was leaning in, and as a parting gift, he so gently pressed his lips to yours in a fluttery, soft kiss.
“Usually I wouldn’t dare do this, but considering this is what one might call a date..”
He couldn’t even finish his slightly smarmy sentence, as you were already wanting another one, and had a hold on his tunic to get it. You exchanged several more kisses before a few of the handlers stumbled upon the two of you-and as soon as you went to dinner, the entire army knew about “the retainer and the healer smooching in the courtyard”. Not that Subaki minded, though, as now he could drape his arm around you and pull you close when he wanted-even in the heat of battle, as long as both Hana and Sakura aren’t looking. Though, for the rest of time, his samurai counterpart would most definitely tease him about it for the rest of his days.
"W-Whoa, whoa girl-!"
The sound of a distressed whinny echoed throughout the courtyard, and just as you turned towards the source of the scuffle, you managed to catch an eyeful of a certain redhead flailing as he fell from his pegasus. The beast kicked off the ground and flew off, and a few of the royal handlers dashed forwards to catch it before it escaped-but you sprinted forth for a different reason, and that was to assess the damage of the rider. As you rushed to his side, you could already tell it was bad by the way he was breathing heavily-and to your shock, it was indeed Subaki that had fallen from his companion.
Since you'd first seen him in the stables, you always regarded him with admiration-the way he seemed to act with grace and poise, as well as how he was always put together, down to every last strand of hair. Subaki was the epitome of perfection, in every way-but seeing him now, gasping and coughing on the ground and covered in dirt, it almost felt like he was a completely different person.
"Breathe, Subaki! Big, deep breaths-you've just got the wind knocked out of you, you'll be fine!"
To help alleviate the pain, you kneeled next to him and brought his head up carefully to rest on your lap, gently taking hold of his shoulders to calm his nerves. Within minutes, his breathing evened out and he relaxed considerably-but in an attempt to sit up, pain flashed across his face, and he clutched his side.
"I-I'm fine, really-I-I meant to do that...hrk!"
Subaki trembled, and in the moment, you couldn't help but see him as one of the wealthy children that you used to treat-stubborn and foolhardy, unwilling to admit that they'd made a mistake. If the retainer kept up this way, then you'd likely have to resort to more forceful measures of healing him. And the last thing you wanted to do was have to pin him down, and mess that lovely hair of his up.
"Hush. I'm not going anywhere-and neither are you, until I find out what's wrong with you."
Shifting your position on the ground, you placed your hand on Subaki's belly and pressed lightly around the area, until you got up to his left side, when he hissed out in pain at the pressure. You clicked your tongue and lifted his tunic up just a bit-and even just from that, Subaki's cheeks became a little pink.
"That's what I thought-looks like your rib is bruised, if not broken. Come, let's get you to the medical aid tent."
You took his arm and began putting it around your shoulders to lift him to his feet, watching as he averted his eyes from yours, and made a little sound of displeasure.
"Work with me here, Subaki. There's no use resisting, I'm not about to leave you be-besides, how are you gonna protect Lady Sakura when you can barely stand?"
That seemed to get through to him, and with a defeated sigh he allowed you to haul him off to the tent for him to get patched up by Sakura herself. For a few days, the incident faded gradually from your mind-until early one morning, when said pegasus rider was waiting outside your tent for you to leave.
"Ah, there you are. I just wanted to....to thank you."
Subaki thrusted a small package into your hands, seemingly a bit flustered. For once, with a redness to his face and the way he shifted from one foot to the other, it was apparent that he was pretty nervous.
"It was nothing, Subaki-"
"No, no it wasn't. You took good care of me, as stubborn as I may act....and that well deserves gratitude. So, er, I was wondering...perhaps, if you can look past that....maybe you'd like to come riding with me sometime?"
He smiled, soft and elegant as always-and with only a moment of hesitation, you happily agreed.
"Really?! That's-I-I mean, of course! I'll collect you later tonight, my dear-and I promise, I'll make this the best night of your life!"
"Well, with everyone here, I'm sure we won't have much trouble at all!"
~With that, the group headed northeast. However, the closer they seemed to get to their destination, the more lucid the enemy seemed to become. Eventually, attacks began to be initiated by the enemy rather than just by those fighting for the palace.
"...ngh...they must really want us...not to get to it...!"
~Shifting closer, they began to hear shouts originating from the northeast. They weren't close enough to see or recognize the voices, though.

Okay I'll try to focus solely on Subaki rn cuz describing everyone's actions might not only be me repeating myself but also might confuse me a little.

"If they don't want us in I say it only gives us more reason to engage" Subaki says as he makes sure to not let Sakura out of his sight much like Hana who was right behind them. Perhaps their destination would finally give them some answers. But as the shouts are heard it is only raises more questions.
He tried to listen in to the voices but like the others, he wasn't able to tell who it was coming from. His focus was on another level as he prepared himself for anything to happen at this point.
"Forgive me, I didn't mean to argue. I guess I really am a little on edge."
~She began to continue on, Subaki and Sakura at her side.
"Nothing is making any sense. A whole army shows up, Lady Sakura is forced out of her room and it's practically turned upside down before they abandon her. Without taking her life, I might add! Then we get back and we can't find anyone?"
~They kept moving, but it was like the army had tunnel vision on the palace. Every invisible soldier they came across wasn't really paying attention to them, and they were continuously getting the jump on the army.
"I'm not alone in thinking this is really strange, right? We've taken out so many...and they're hardly fighting us back."

"You're definitely not alone thinking how odd it all is" Subaki reassures you as Sakura nods "They feel so lifeless, like their only purpose is to attack" she added
Although he still fought them back he started looking at what may be happening in the distance. He sees a faint light and says "Doesn't that look like lord Takumi's arrows?" he was sure of what he was seeing, but he just wanted to bring your attention to it.
"It's not about that, Subaki. I don't care about action or glory...I don't even know where Lord Takumi is."
~Her weapon lowered.
"What I do know is that the longer we take to find everyone, the more people die. If I'm available to help, then that's what I'm going to do. Every moment we fail to locate the rest of our army, someone like him..."
~She gestures toward the swordsman's corpse on the ground.
"...loses their life. So why stagnate?"

Idk why but I really like angsty scenes like that!

"You're completely right about that, and I apologize for making Like you said we need to help as many as possible" he sighed "That's why we shouldn't argue about this, at least not now"
He looked around "I don't see any enemies left. Let's look for the injured and move on from this area"
~Although she has been doing her best with the bow, it certainly isn't as easy as Lord Takumi makes it look. It seemed as though any time she wanted to advance or change her location, there was another swarm of enemies waiting for her.
"He-...ngh"
~She caught herself before calling out. It wasn't safe; she'd only do it when she knew someone was nearby that might need her help. Or if worst came to worst.
~She was running out of arrows, but even that wasn't as disheartening as the lack of allies she was running into. She hadn't so much as heard another royal or retainer. It didn't help that every dozen or so weapons she found on the ground (likely from fallen invisible soldiers), she'd find a body in a Hoshidan uniform.

I know I posted about it a few times already but yay Takumi's birthday!

After getting your weapon, instead of looking for Hana and helping her out Subaki looked for you first.
Seeing you so surrounded he knew that he made the right choice as he rushed in to aid you and give you your weapon back. Sakura followed behind so he'd be able to both help you and her.
"Why did you just run off like that?" he was still surprised. He knew that you wanted to go back to your lord but at the same time he didn't think you'd just leave like that "I knew you wanted to go back to the action but that's not how you exactly go about it" he says as he helps you fight off the invisible soldiers "I know that our lords are who we should serve above all else but if you end up dying while trying to reach him then what's the point?"
