The Plot Thickens???
As you may know in the recent Spy x Family chapter, Anya has a weakness to her ability. Her telepathy "eclipses" when there is a new moon. If this is correlation and not causation is still up for debate.
But why is this plot point brought up now? We don't know how long the Forgers have been a "family," but it has been at least 4 months, since the school is taking the mid-term exams. There would have been at least 4 new moons for Anya to lose her telepathy, but none of them are focused on.
However, wouldn't this be the time for Anya to be on top of her guard?
Somehow, Anya escaped the lab that gave her her telepathy. In fact, she probably used that telepathy to escape in the first place. If the scientists wanted to get her back, then her eclipse would be the best time to do so.
Then why didn't they do so before the start of the story?
Anya was shoved into the foster care system, jumping for place to place for awhile. If she is actually at the start of the story, and she escaped at 3, she would have been a foster kid for about a year. And it's proven that the orphanage didn't keep sufficient records, since the orphanage owner didn't know what age Anya was and that he just dumped her into Twilight's arms without a background check, any paperwork, or Anya's information.
Without any records, the lab would have no way of finding her without going door to door. They could have together given up at that point.
But Anya got accepted into Eden Academy. A place that obviously keeps sufficient records, from grading, behavior, and even art assignments.
And to add even more fuel to the fire, Anya saved a kid from drowning. This is a newspaper-worthy story. Anya could have had her name or even face attached in the story, and the lab would know that's she's alive and her location. And how to get her back.
Even if Anya is a 1st grader and they could easily overpower her, she could still possibly hear their thoughts and escape to a trusted adult. That is too great a risk. So, they wait until her eclipse to make their move.
Anya is a character that relies on her telepathy, it's basically another sense for her. she uses it to cheat on tests, and possibly discover the intentions of someone. Without it, she has to rely on her own. Not to mention that she is still a child, and children don't always have the greatest sense of danger.
Anya probably thought she was safe once she escaped the lab. It was out of pure luck of a crappy foster care system that she wasn't found by the lab. For her the lab is now a distant memory. But she doesn't realize that they can find her now, and her biggest worry is passing the mid-term exam.
The scientists might show up next chapter, and kidnap Anya.
