Office chairs, screen glare, lukewarm coffee. Glitches in the corner of his eye. The scent of honey and ash where no scent should be. Then something bloomed on the screen.

Kelsey Maurine Brickl went to Coney Island alone in go-go boots and a minidress, encountered MTA construction blocking an accessible boarding point, sent a legal email from the train, incited a small wave of characteristically outraged New Yorker commentary on her behalf, ignored Zoltar, briefly considered taking a $27,000 electric wheelchair around a ramp seemingly intended for skateboard tricks, drank a watermelon mojito while staring into the ocean... and may or may not have confused a whale with Jesus.

“Britain, being Britain, has somehow managed to sustain a seamless visual dialogue between imperial nostalgia (for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II specifically), municipal neglect, and… the possibility of a quick rub down upstairs.

Cities with slightly more posh reputations have attempted to ameliorate the situation somewhat.

Apparently London’s moneyed classes have not just been frequenting Bath for many centuries to partake of the waters but also, of late, to gaze upon the picturesque plantings in its otherwise abandoned phone booths.
