The one thing that feels so disconnected from Magnificent Century and Magnificent Century Kosem is this issue of fratricide.
the original MC basically had Hurrem be framed as this villain for even daring to think Mustafa would kill her sons, and it bends over backwards to make Mustafa seem like a good brother and never dare think of using the fratricide law (and it’s all evil Mahidevrah who would ever think of using it not good Mustafa).
Meanwhile in MC Kosem I would say the core of the show is about Ottoman succession/fratricide and how it destroyed the empire. Historically there are a lot of reasons for the decline but how can you have good rulers if when they were mentally developing they were terrified of being executed at a moments notice? Even the Kafes as a solution isn’t a good idea bc you end up rulers like Mustafa I who have been so mentally broken they simply cannot be good rulers.
It’s just so jarring because in the original show it’s like “Hurrem is so wacky for thinking her children were in any danger” and then in MC Kosem it’s like “well actually this is a 400 year old custom/law so I guess Hurrem wasn’t so wacky to think her sons lives would be forfeit if Mustafa had succeeded”.
It’s kind of crazy these shows were produced by the same people…
