i'm fine admitting problems in chinese culture to other poc but when it's to white people i hesitate bc i never know if that's when they're gonna start that "china is TOTALLY problematic" bullshit

like i will criticize e. asians to hell and back for the shit they pull, and other poc doing it doesn't bother me (especially when they're the affected group-- mainly referring to antiblackness in kpop and e. asian ent etc) but the moment someone white comes in it's almost always unintentionally racist or i'm like ahaHAHAHA I DON'T SEE THIS SAME LEVEL OF SCRUTINY HEAPED ONTO YOUR WHITE FAVES HOW ABOUT FUCKIN OFF

when poc do it it's usually disappointment over problematic behavior, when white people do it it's usually HAH LOOK AT THESE POC BEING SHITTY WHERE IS YOUR HIGH HORSE NOW (and the non-shitty white folks signal boost posts written by poc on the issue instead of shoving in themselves, so that's a great indicator too)

i've been going through our collection of chinese culture/history books and i found a book on imperial chinese women and hot diggity these women did so much

yeah like i'm not saying china is PERFECT by any means, but it's pretty straightforward about where women stand, instead of trying to pretend it's some paradise of equality while shitting all over them

like chinese folks acknowledge the impact and signifcance women have had/are having on culture/society/history (like everyone is taught that a woman invented SILK), and with the one-child plicy it's a million times less hypocriticial than the US when it comes to birth control (you don't want people to have kids? give them every means of birth control!)

tl;dr what i'm saying isn't 'china's great for women!', it's 'white feminists who know jack shit about china need to stop pretending the US is any better'
