the instinct the need to sacrifice yourself for the greater good for any good for anyone at all, to pick yourself apart just to see if the pieces are worth anything
it was sunset when you started, wary footsteps carrying you from hospital bed to haunted streets, fingers clenching around the unfamiliar weapon in your hand. the sun's last dying rays set your ginger hair on fire, but it also made the bloodstains slowly growing on your cloak all the starker.
it was midnight when you killed the vicar. what a funny thing that is to say, that you killed a vicar, but she was as much a beast as any of them, and damn if the clergy don't make the most horrifying beasts when the scourge takes hold. it was a mercy, what you did to her, what you're doing to them all, and it is more than they deserve. blasted fools, meddling with that which they did not understand, could not control. no wonder your kin are calling you to correct Yharnam's mistakes.
but the dawn never comes.
several days pass. of that you're certain; you've had to nap, had to sleep, had to eat and take care of other necessities and distractions. you've whiled away many an exhausted hour in the Dream, recuperating from injuries to both mind and body. so you know days have come and gone while you've painstakingly made your way through this dying land.
but these days are passed under blessed moonlight, full and heavy in the dark sky above.
the night of the Hunt stretches on eternal, until the nightmare is slain and the beasts are all put down.
and you know that most hunters never see the dawn.
Its a special kinda quiet when dawn breaks here. The planet is chaotic, loud, terrifying at almost all hours of the day.
But when the light starts to peek over the horizon and tints everything with a soft, dreamy haze, it feels like the whole world gets quiet. Like there’s a moment of peace, a calm eye inside of the storm that is Pandora.
Suppose I am hard to read, given you can only see my eyes. Yes, I know a lot of people find it creepy. That's expected.
But, like I've said before, I have my reasons. I can't take off my mask around you. It's a safety thing, you understand. To protect both you and me.
Rust, rust, and more rust.
Some sections are just shut off for good, left to decay.
You’re not even sure if its ok to breathe the air in here.
all the endings that never came, hundreds, thousands, infinities of them, piercing through you all at once, all at once clamoring begging you to understand.
it's going to be a long night again.
the slow shatter. the obliteration. memories, personality, personhood all smashed upon the floor. and now, to pick up the pieces and try to fit them back together or to crush the shards underfoot down to dust.
something warm, warm as the sun, pressing your face to the floor to feel it, something in this house is warm, something in this house is beating
