How I feel about this character: Really nice guy, super gay for Yuri, he genuinely wants to change the world by working within the system as opposed to Yuri’s working outside the system via the guilds and vigilantism.  I actually quite like Flynn, and I do wish we got to see more of him in the game.  Of course, I get that it wasn’t really possible since Yuri’s the main POV character, not Flynn.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Yuri.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Estelle.  I really like the idea of their friendship as two people who want to change the Empire for the better and working together to possibly come up with new policies to make life better for everyone, not just the wealthy.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Are there such things as unpopular Flynn opinions?

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I’m actually pretty happy with Flynn’s story arc in Vesperia, so I guess the only thing I could really ask for is a Flynn’s Side for Vesperia (like how there’s a Leon’s side in Destiny) so we could see what he was doing and up to the entire time he was away from the party.

alright so back in i think 2013 and 2014, hideo baba came over on two separate occasions to give a talk in my school about game design stuff

naturally i got all hyped and went for the talk

1st year they dragged a crappy interpreter who could only translate less than half of what hideo baba had spoken on the development of tales of vesperia. he’s a producer, mind you, so i doubt his jobscope went further than ‘overseeing & managing the project’, and im still not sure how a tales of game is pieced together even today.

anyway, the presentation went terribly. Q&A went terribly. at the end of it all i did tell hideo baba that i had been waiting for english tales of vesperia for the ps3 tales of xillia 2 for way too fucking long and have already played it. i think it was 2 years between JP and EN release? i dont quite rmb.

he was kinda shocked and surprised, but he seemed to be aware of the mounting complains of translation issues ringing loudly throughout the fandom. 

anywho, being big tales of fan at this time, i went back for a little japanese training so i could converse better with them next time, if he ever came by again.

and they did.

the next year they dragged a local interpreter of the company who was so, so much better. i wore basically magilou clothes (which you can read about it here) and dragged my entire tales of collection down i had at the time. this time, kousuke fujishima was there. the guy in charge of character design for tales of vesperia.

he signed my tales of vesperia copy, and i helped him do interpretation to another student who asked for pointers on art

hideo baba swung by and was like ‘u know japanese?!’

now, i dont know if he remembered me. he’s a busy man, so im like 99% sure he didn’t.

‘cause i was forced to learn so i could play ur game, but im not good enough’

‘omg thats amazing, please keep learning! will you play tales of zestiria when it comes out??’

‘hell yeah sir, day 1, sir.’

‘nice!!! give this girl a namecard!’

and we spoke for a bit, and my friend who was watching from the side was shitting himself watching me interact with them.

and they left

and tales of zestiria came out

and they didn’t come back the following year......

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

It’s a close tie between the Tales of fandom and the Megaman EXE fandom (though that might just be because those are the only two fandoms I actually invested myself into haha). Never really had bad experiences with them? Or at least the parts that I interacted in were pretty good.

19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?

Probably Yuri/Estelle the most. I just… don’t see the appeal in that as a romantic ship. And there’s also Rockman/Roll in exe. Never got over the sudden familiarity in the first episode.

28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?

Technically someone already did for my EXE Redemption Au haha… (thanks @monkeylucy!) Been too busy to write more but I would totally love it if someone drew Yuri and Flynn fighting off a bunch of monsters like in this story.

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

I like to listen to music when I write. It keeps me focused on what I’m writing, though I don’t really care about what kind of music it is.

Technically, that's true. It's hard to picture a "not main character" on the NA cover with the protag, or that's been developped before the actual heroine was. Flynn's PS3 playtime might be lower than Kratos but he matches in terms of relevance. It's all not black and white but alright, point taken.

NA game cover is weird though.  Like it doesn’t fit the pattern of covers at all because, amazingly, it doesn’t suck. It’s actually.... got a coherent design?? Uncluttered? Not a collage of concept art?  Amazing.  Tales wont’ have half-another decent cover until Berseria.
