February 1, 2026 - "We want the whole embassy of Israel closed down.” Julius Malema, president of South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), delivered a strong pro-Palestine message during a party plenum.

The speech comes as the South African government expelled Israeli diplomat Seidman following tensions on social media. South Africa accused Seidman of using official social media platforms to attack South African President and inviting Israeli officials to the country without permission.

Malema welcomed the expulsion but said it does not go far enough, insisting that the entire Israeli embassy should be shut down. Addressing EFF members, he also denounced US imperialism, saying Washington and its allies use military and economic power to try to control the world, from Africa to Latin America, explicitly referencing the recent kidnapping of Venezuela’s former leader, Nicolás Maduro. Happy National Women’s Day, South Africa!  On this date in 1956, some 20,000 South African women marched on the Union Buildings in Pretoria in protest of the existing Pass Laws, requiring South Africans defined as "black" to carry an internal passport, known as a pass.  Organized by the Federation of South African Women, an anti-apartheid group, the Women’s March included a representative from each racial group presenting then-Prime Minister J. G. Strijdom’s secretary [Strijdom, the coward, was hiding away elsewhere] with a petition of 14,000 signatures each.  National Women’s Day continues to be celebrated, drawing attention to ongoing women’s issues in the new post-apartheid South Africa.
