Friendly reminder to limit or avoid caffeine and alcohol during extreme heat!
Hey y’all, so it’s hot as fuck today and I thought I’d make a small PSA.
Water is obviously the best way of staying hydrated in any weather, but I understand that some of you dislike plain water. I’ve met some people who flat out will not drink water at all and will go thirsty if they can’t get anything else.
I’m not here to demonize people who hate water. I would rather you guys drink SOMETHING rather than get dehydrated, especially when it’s this hot.
That being said, if you’re going to spend a lot of time outdoors, please avoid drinks with alcohol or caffeine! Both of those things will dehydrate you and that’s the opposite of what we want.
If it’s just water’s plainness that you dislike, pick up some flavor drops or packets of flavoring—they sell them in Target and Walmart and probably most major grocery stores.
If you’re a soda drinker, consider Sprite or ginger ale or anything else without caffeine.
If you’re a coffee person, I know decaf sucks, but at the very least get decaf if you know you’re gonna spend a lot of time outside. Ditto with tea. Even iced drinks can dehydrate you, not to mention you’ll need to pee like crazy.
If you’re cracking open a couple beers or making pina coladas, pace yourself and make sure you eat and drink water to avoid both dehydration AND blacking out or other alcoholic unpleasantries. This is just good advice for the entire year though tbh.
Remember that just because something is a cold liquid, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be enough to keep you safe and hydrated!
