This Summer of Gaming really drives home Blizzard’s fall from grace because even though they gave two great showings (Overwatch 2 being free-to-play and Diablo 4), literally nobody is celebrating or giving them credit or praising them. It’s just leery caution at best, scornful mockery at worst.

I saw somebody remark that if Diablo 4 was coming out five or ten years earlier it’d be their dream game, but now all they can think is ”how will Blizzard fuck this up, how will they unethically monetize it, what controversy will they get into next?”. And I realized I was thinking the same thing. Diablo 4 looks AWESOME but I just can’t get excited because it’s coming off the heels of a whole massive conga-line of Blizzard awfulness and especially off the heels of Diablo Immortal.
