We’ve quickly grown to be fervid fans of San Francisco’s own budding starlet Lyrah, especially after she enthralled us with her crisp bounding, dulcet hopping indie pop on Down Low earlier this year. Her gently simmering, igneous yet velvety voice draws us in each and every time we eagerly take that song for a spin (revisit our feature, here). As it turns out, we’re learning how well Lyrah’s music lends itself to remixes by some of our favorite production talents, too. GOLDHOUSE gave Lyrah’s Don’t Make Me a luxuriant disco throbbing dance edit earlier this summer. And now, NYC synthpop and nu-disco connoisseur Penguin Prison has given Down Low a sprightly bouncing, glossy hurdling remix with aureate chords and balmy beats, all built around Lyrah’s voice of smoked honey. This is exactly the sort of lighthearted and gleeful soiree that lifts spirits and sets us free to dance without abandon after an arduous day.
