[From here because the Tumblrs and I’m taking a few minutes to avoid work hi.]
Before Noctis had even finished asking, Prompto had stepped to the side, arm outstretched to welcome him in. “My place is your place, Noct. Always. You don’t even have to ask, dude.” Prompto would do anything for Noctis after all, minimal (if any) questions asked. Although, that wasn’t to say he wasn’t curious as to what led Noctis to his door.
“So umm, not that I don’t love you being around and all, buddy, but what are you doing here?” It wasn’t like him to show up unannounced and alone at that. Something had to be up, unless Prompto was simply overthinking it and really that was just as possible.
The smile was soft, fleeting; more relief than anything, but grateful. “Thanks.” Noctis didn’t hesitate to take the invitation, having shown up with nothing save the clothes on his back and his wallet, and even that was sheer luck. He probably should have grabbed his school bag or something, at least pretended like he was going to do something “useful”...
But he couldn’t. And he didn’t even want to pretend. A tighter, even more fleeting smile crossed his lips but not his eyes at Prompto’s question. He didn’t want to get into it, really, didn’t want to talk about his father’s health, even indirectly, with anyone because that would make it more real. “Guess I ‘snapped at’ someone who joked about the ‘royal cane’.” He simplified, eyes oh so casually averted as he rubbed the back of his head. “Iggy’s waiting for me at the apartment. Gladio might be with him, so... Just don’t want to go back there tonight is all.” There. That was simple. Too little and far too much at the same time.
But he didn’t want his friend to worry about it. Or to think about it too much. “Thanks.” He repeated quietly.
