“卑弥呼“ 1974
Hindu Mythology & Deities - The Gods of Rig Vedic Period (14)- Ādityas
In Hinduism, Ādityas, meaning “of Aditi”, refers to the offspring of the goddess Aditi and her husband the sage Kashyapa. The name Āditya, in the singular, is taken to refer to the Sun God, Surya.
The Rig Veda mentions 5-8 deities. According to the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism, each of these Ādityas is a different expression of the Supreme God Vishnu in the form of the Sun-God.
The list of 8 Ādityas is as follows:
Varuna
Mitra
Aryaman
Bhaga
Aṃśa
Dhatri
Indra
Surya

After death, Egyptians hoped to merge with both the sun-god Re and the king of the dead, Osiris. The deity resulting from the fusion of these two gods was called Re-Osiris. He was represented as a ram with horns and a sun disk on his head. This image was sometimes added to a coffin to help the deceased join with the gods. The deceased merged with the sun-god Re to travel with the sun across the sky to the West, where the entrance to the afterlife was thought to lie. The departed combined with Osiris, king of the afterlife, to live eternally in the next world.

Some religions don't need to be taught. Awe and reverence for the sun come as naturally as breathing.
BAAL
BAAL, n. An old deity formerly much worshiped under various names. As Baal he was popular with the Phoenicians; as Belus or Bel he had the honor to be served by the priest Berosus, who wrote the famous account of the Deluge; as Babel he had a tower partly erected to his glory on the Plain of Shinar. From Babel comes our English word "babble."
Under whatever name worshiped, Baal is the Sun-god. As Beelzebub he is the god of flies, which are begotten of the sun's rays on the stagnant water. In Physicia Baal is still worshiped as Bolus, and as Belly he is adored and served with abundant sacrifice by the priests of Guttledom.

A Saturday: Pt 2
With crap still on my lens, we continued to Modhera: Temple to the Hindu sun-god Surya [not to be confused with Surya]. Built in early 11th century by King Bhimdev, the complex is composed of three parts: The water tank, the pillared hall, and the main temple.
Look at this silly goose; one of 100+ shrines that sit between the tank steps.
Inside the pillared hall, there are 52 pillars; one for each week of the year.
Find the center of the hall and look up.
And now. Gratuitous monkey shots.
The white person tax.
Inside the sanctum sanctorum, or the main temple, light is limited; making a nice condition for the local bat union. Finder's keepers Bruce.
When leaving the temple, we suddenly felt the presence of the sun-god; or Al Gore. But either way, it was hot as a grannie. Some shade and a nice place to sit? Yeaaaa. It will have to do.
Next Up. Rani Ki Vav.
