I have been painstakingly collecting and cataloging all the different comic cover variants for both Sunhawk and Liberation. Thus far I've counted 42 versions. This set is just from the Sunhawk series (I'll have another post for Liberation). If you haven't read them, you definitely should!
Contributing Artists Are:
Loish, Peach Momoko, Ann Maulina, Junggeun Yoon, Harvey Tolibao, Artgerm, and some official game key art.
Decided to fix my mistake and add the arrow🫶. Might do more covers for other quests in Horizon for fun and when I have the time. Maybe y’all can suggest some and I’ll try to draw them when I can. Anyway, just wanted to fix this piece🫶🏹
Ok I only have one allergy pill in my system and my brain is clear. ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
Sunny and The Cross Guild headcanons (lol sounds like a band name)
Below the cut because maybe some nsfw mentions. Idk
Her time with Mihawk:
- She was 18 when they first met, he was 22. He swung by the shop she was an apprentice at and she took care of his order.
- He would swing by periodically in that year. She was always excited to see him.
- They exchanged letters for a bit but he just stopped responding. Sunny knew people would get busy but after a year of no answer she gave up.
- However during their time together, he did take her on some dates. They would kiss, hold hands, things like that but hidden in alleyways so no one would see. He never took her back to his ship. She almost took him back to her room above the shop once but her boss didn't want any funny business, even if the man was as handsome as Mihawk.
- He actually showed back up two years after Sunny was gone from the shop. He wanted to see her but her boss delivered a letter to him from Sunny that explained she wasn't going to wait and that she had moved on.
- He wasn't sure if he was heartbroken or not.
Her time with Sir Crocodile:
- While she waited for Mihawk, she had a new customer. He showed up with a custom order for clothes as well as needing some things fixed. Sunny was given the job.
- He showed up quite a bit that first year. When she let go of the hope of seeing Mihawk again, Crocodile swooped in almost immediately. He was about to embark on a journey and wondered if she would want to come along?
- He wasn't the first one to ask and Sunny figured he wouldn't be the last, but in that year she found herself looking forward to seeing him. She wondered how long this would last.
- Jokes on Sunny, it lasted a long time. This wasn't a fling, she was in love. She traveled with him to Alabasta. She asked about marriage and he held off at first, but once they settled they wed. She insisted her parents be there. He made it work for her.
- It was fine and dandy until some teenagers showed up 16 years later. Crocodile never discussed business with his darling wife. She was just as surprised and shocked as everyone else with what was happening (and then she was pissed).
- Though she wasn't arrested by the Marines, they took her from Alabasta and dropped her off elsewhere. She was able to start a small tailoring business after selling her wedding ring and some jewelry because with her (ex) husband in Impel Down, she doesn't see a reason to keep those memories.
Her time with Buggy:
- This was absolutely the shortest fling. Talking a month or six weeks. Buggy considers their time together from when he first laid eyes on her in her shop. She considers their relationship to be just a fling and didn't really count the days.
- Buggy was flashy about asking her out, taking her on his ship, bringing her to the parties his crew would have. She enjoyed it. He made her laugh with stupid jokes.
- Sunny was Buggy's first. He can't believe he went so long without it but he was glad it was with Sunny. He fell hard and fast when they laid in his bed and she held him, kissing him and stroking his hair.
- Buggy told her he loved her within 3 weeks. Sunny didn't say anything back.
- He had to go, however, the sea was calling and there was treasure he wanted. He told her he would come back when he had it and they could sail away together. Sunny told him he had to come back first.
- She caught wind that Marines caught Buggy and threw him in Impel Down. That's two out of three of her former relationships right there.
Sunny comes to Karai Bari:
- Sunny sees a poster of all three of her exes on it. She hears where to find them. She by chance runs into some Buggy Pirates who are doing a quick incognito errand run and when they realize who she is (Buggy never shut up about the one who got away) they bring her along.
- All three are surprised to see her.
- And all three are surprised by each other's connections with her. Sunny is just happily sipping tea while the three loudly debate over who is actually with her.
- Mihawk doesn't stand a chance since he stopped communicating with her, but he was her first love.
- Crocodile actually got to marry her and he was with her the longest. That must mean something (except she doesn't quite trust him since he hid so much from her).
- Buggy was her latest relationship even though it was two years ago. He never stopped thinking about her.
- Honestly, Sunny wanted to just say hi and see how they were doing. She doesn't intend to stick around.
I've got my own thoughts about the Burning Shores, but I don't think Aloy falling for someone is out of character, because they've been slowly building up to that moment in HFW:
This extremely awkward conversation with Avad, who is trying to court her (a reminder that people are romantically interested in her)
Zo and Varl's relationship - I personally don't think her reaction was necessarily jealousy, just her being confronted with the possibility of falling for someone for the first time (after years of living as an outcast)
Finding out about Elizabeth's past relationship with Tilda, and that she wasn't as untouchable as she thought her to be
And finally, her conversation with Talanah at Barren Light about first love (or crush) - all but predicting BS
She simply found a home with people that she loves and trusts, and now feels safe enough to open her heart for the first time.
