Don't come any closer! I'll be right here. Look, the shadows make exactly as much sense as most of their relationship so I'm just gonna enjoy it for what it is.
The more I think about it, I'm starting to think Sun died in the forest or at least didn't wake up as easily as Khim saw him wake up and is still in the hospital.
We haven't seen anyone else speak to Sun since then. Everyone else seems to be grasping at straws and in pain and worried about losing the people they love Khim's dad is suddenly trying to be kind to him...
This feels like the world Khim wants, the world whether Sun is alive and beside him and his father lets him live his dream and everyone else is still in a real world but he's entered a fairytale.
His father never touched him and the connecting vanished the moment other people arrived. Sun knows why he's afraid of death. Shun didn't go to talk to Sun after he was rejected. Khim's dream of the helicopter and the panic as he pushed the thoughts away. Rain asking Payu to watch Khim after he trusted him to Sun just last episode.
This all feels... off.
Next episode, I'll be watching to see if anyone else talks to Sun. That's the biggest sign.
Khim being literally so jealous about other people existing around Sun that he forgets he's allergic to seafood is a new and fascinating moment to me. Oh, this awkward boy who's so much more comfortable with plants and who is rediscovering the one person he's ever connected to without knowing that they're one and the same person and I am going to be emotionally destroyed when he finds out who Sun is.
Mom? Mommy. I miss you. Mommy. I miss you.
Awkward but concerned, awkward but caring, unable to express himself most of the time but still wanting to protect him, Khim is walled off and closed off while Sun tries to be open but they're both just hiding pain in different ways, different pain and fears but deep down the just want someone to love and to protect and to be loved and to be protected all the same.
Sun sees Khim in the moment... but Khim is only out there to look out for Sun. They pass through the rain, bright and brilliant against a dark backdrop, not knowing what they passed or what will become of them.
Also... apples.
But, truthfully, there's so much symbolism in this show about separation and temporarily meeting and only one person being the one to see the separation. We started with Khim losing his childhood friend (the airplane necklace) and Sun watching the comets (the telescope and the night sky) and now they pass each other crossing the street for the same purpose.
The amount that I love Sun literally abandoning his life to find Khim because of a youtube video talking about the red shoe is unbelievable this is just so wild and fantastic. I love it. Your honor, I love it.
Sun wearing Khim's childhood shoe as a comfort is absolutely heartbreaking, darling and just something almost impossible to describe, a moment of Sun knowing that he was always destined for Khim but also finding comfort in their past as he tries to save their future despite not knowing what he's doing or what he's saving.
