Last night we celebrated our volunteer family at @thesurnriseproject. Such an amazing group with such huge hearts. We laughed and cooked, ate way too many delicious homemade pizza combos, reconnected with each other and shared ideas for next year. Thank you @melissa.freiburger for this lovely community of beautiful souls that you’ve attracted, gathered and opened your heart too. Sunrise is truly a lovely community. 🥬🥬🥬 I’m baaack! Stopped by @thesinriseproject today for the first time since my trip. So much goodness and so many exciting changes. First, chard and lettuce are ready in the garden and with this heat fresh, raw dinner sounds delish. Grilled salmon on a bed of fresh lettuce anyone? In addition to all the lush, green energy on the garden, there is fresh energy on The Front porch Pantry. New organization feels like a slap of fresh paint and the new shelves are sturdy and inviting. They’re a little bare, especially the new shelves for kids’ snacks. Not worried, though, our community shows up throughout the day filling the shelves and emptying the shelves. The pantry is like a living, breathing entity! After a week off Sunrise is back for this third Wednesday community meal. A Yogi Kitchen yogis are baking the sweets and packaging and serving the meal, while @grinnellcollege alum who live in the area are gathering on Tuesday to prep the meal and grab a bite together after. Both yogis and @grinnellians are special groups of people and I love, love, love that we gather together to practice Seva (to be in service). The connection and laughter is as integral to the experience as cooking and feeding people. Regardless of what you practice or where you went to college, join us! It’s always a lovely and fun time full of connection, community and dedication to others. DM me for scheduling details. Pollo de Guisado y Arroz. We’re diving into selfless service, or Seva. Part of our dedication to others at A Yogi Kitchen, we’re connecting with community and we’re taking care of each other. We’re baking, prepping and cooking for the community meal at @thesunriseproject this week. The guest chef is making a traditional Puerto Rican chicken dish. Chicken stew with rice is satisfying, filling and delicious. Come enjoy with us. Dinner is curbside from 5-6p Wednesday. Show up to get meals. Donate when you pick up or whatever works for online, if that works for you. You do not have to donate to enjoy dinner. If you don’t have transportation, email [email protected] to have dinner delivered to your home. Gluten-free and vegan options are available. Clearing out the clutter. Do you have a drawer or a basket that looks like this? Are you decluttering and organizing for the new year? Don’t toss these. For all the awesome things that get donated to help feed people, salt, pepper, ketchup and other condiments aren’t often donated. You can take them to the local shelter or food pantry. If you’re in Lawrence, KS you could make little ziplocs and take them to the porch pantry at @thesunriseproject at 1501 Learned with whatever non-perishables have been in your pantry that you won’t use. As long you’re cleaning out your pantry, take a look in your closets, attic and basement. Collect any coats, gloves, sweaters and blankets that you’re ready to release. You can take clothes to the outdoor closet at Sunrise Project and blankets to DARE center at 944 Kentucky. If you have kids clothes you can donate them to Lawrence Sunshine Foundation, which provides resources and supplies for foster families or our closet at A Yogi Kitchen. We store supplies until we hear of a need, either when an organization is running low or when we have of a family or person in need of specific items. OR drop me a message and I will pick up your donations on Wednesday morning as I’m picking up desserts for the community meal at Sunrise this week. I will take them to the organization of your choice. You can text me and we can make arrangements for me to pick them up off your porch. Have a great day of clearing energy for a fantastic new year!
