Silver Biscione: 1957 Alfa Romeo 1900 CSS by Touring
The Alfa Romeo 1900 CSS is a quintessential example of automotive craftsmanship and elegance. Handbuilt by Touring of Milan, the all-aluminum body of this 1900 CSS significantly reduces its curb weight, offering a nimble driving experience. Paired with the legendary 1.9-liter four-cylinder, twin cam engine, this Alfa Romeo is a fantastic specimen. Inside, the car provides ample legroom,…
An iconic classic among racing games from the 80s, that holds a special place in my gaming heart as the ultimate favorite. After showing longplays from other home systems, today we delve into the Atari ST version, a remarkable port that faithfully mirrors the thrills of its arcade counterpart, standing as the pinnacle of home console adaptations.
At its core, Super Sprint strikes the perfect balance, delivering a racing experience that gradually escalates in intensity. Each race demands precision; At the highest level, the slightest misstep around a bend can swiftly cost you victory.
Securing first place is your gateway to the next track, a challenging but rewarding journey that boasts an ideal learning curve, ensuring that your triumphs are earned through skill rather than unpredictability.
The lasting allure of Super Sprint lies not just in its gameplay but also in its graphics, that are - without fear of contradiction -a vibrant testament to the 1980s arcade era. They're bursting with charm, boasting detailed tracks and cars that are a joy to race around. The colors are vivid, and the animations, considering the technology of the time, are impressively smooth.
That coupled with the straightforward yet addictive gameplay makes this title an evergreen delight that continues to captivate both new and seasoned gamers alike.

A fun fact about Super Sprint is that publisher Altron would later recycle that artwork for the European release of SNES racing game Aguri Suzuki F-1 Super Driving (known in the US as Redline F1 Racer).
Another fun fact, which I've mentioned in the past, is that Beast Wars was the first game that had the involvement of a certain Tameem Antoniades, aka one of the minds behind titles like Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Journey to the West, and of course, the infamous DmC: Devil May Cry. As polarizing as the last one is, it's definitely a lot better than Beast Wars, I can tell ya.
One last fun fact is regarding FlatOut. As you all might know one of the biggest claims to fame of that game was its crashes and use of ragdoll physics for when drivers fly out of the vehicles, which in the German release was replaced with ragdolling crash test dummies instead. The Japanese version interestingly features a mixture of both things: regular race events and demolition derbies feature the normal human drivers, whereas the stunt events use the crash test dummies instead. Presumably the Japanese releases of 2 and Ultimate Carnage (both of which retained the FlatOut name, with 2 adding a "GTR" as its subtitle) do the same.
As for Blockout, it and a couple of other early Genesis releases from EA (Sword of Sodan and Populous) were released by Sega in Japan, a year or so before EA eventually made their Japanese division, EA Victor (later EA Square, now EA Japan). This also makes them the only EA titles in the region that were released as standard Mega Drive cartridges rather than in EA’s own carts, as it would happen when EA Victor started doing releases there.
