Hello tumblr~ Today I am going to talk about how superstraight is super real and super valid despite being often very misunderstood, and often intentionally misrepresented from people who are superphobic from either hate or ignorance. 🖤🧡 The S+ community loves trans people (just not in bed!) 🖤🧡 We are not “transphobic” for having this sexuality, and I’m not making this post or this blog because of any hate or fear of trans people. Not all trans people are superphobic (some are even S+ or allies), and even if they are, we need to be as compassionate as possible in this time and understand a lot of superphobes are spreading absolute lies about us. However there is no reason for S+ people to have to tolerate violence or threats. 🖤🧡 We were started on tiktok, not fourchan. 🖤🧡 Fourchan found superstraight like a week after it was already a thing on tikok. We survived people trying to co-opt the movement. Fourchan is also an anonymous site (as in does NOT have even usernames) and certain superphobes seem to like to spend a LOT of time on that hate site gleefully taking screenshots that no one knows who posted. 🖤🧡 I love my S+ fam, all superlesbians, supergay, superbi, and allies 🖤🧡 Yall are the best. Superlesbians have suffered for a long time from people not respecting their sexual boundaries and making them fear for their safety. I don’t think superstraight would be here without superlesbians. All you supergay out there, I’ve seen great posts from you guys. Superbi, I see you and you are valid to feel the way you do. Thank you all allies for all your help and acceptance in promoting this misunderstood sexuality. 🖤🧡 Real S+ community members respect trans identities. 🖤🧡 Not being opened to sexual relationships with trans people is not “invalidating”. If you need validation from fucking someone that’s seriously rapey called being an incel. We are not “TERFs” because S+ does not adhere to radical feminism or say trans women are not women. 🖤🧡 We do not have “genital preferences”. 🖤🧡 That implies our sexuality is immutable and can be negotiated. This erodes super boundaries. Fundamental requirements are not preferences, this does not need to be explained to make you feel better. 🖤🧡 Our sexuality is not your meme or joke 🖤🧡 If you don’t take this seriously and respect people and think being superstraight or S+ is just the newest meme, then kid you really need to leave. It’s only becoming more obvious that we are super serious, and now after the fake supers are mostly gone we are finding it easier to organize. 🖤🧡Superphobes are real and they want us to shut up 🖤🧡 They really are trying to break up our community from the bottom to the top but they will not succeed. They mass reported plenty of people’s twitters, they organized with a group called AHS (which has been exposed as posting cp on subreddits they hate to get them shut down) get super subreddits banned to try and kill our community, and even tiktok hid the tag. They will never rewrite our history or silence us. 🖤🧡Superphobes are real and they want to hurt you 🖤🧡 Everyone in S+ knows a real and respectful S+ who has gotten told to “kys” or sent violent, often sexually violent, messages about how the superphobe wishes the S+ in person would die. Stay safe out there supers. 🖤🧡 The S+ community is only growing. 🖤🧡 Every time we lost an insincere memer trying to “pwn libtards” our movement has grown. Every time a platform has tried to crush us more and more people see our movement and find a home. Every time a superphobe posts hateful violence more people wake up to superphobia. Every time a rapey person thinks that other people are not allowed to have choices and gets mad, people wake up. 🖤🧡 Thank you for reading this blog. S+ is super here to stay and will not be silenced no matter what other people think of us. 🖤🧡

read the acknowledgments of rsom and we will talk :) im not here to pick up sides or go defending people, but even when flawed, cc at least tried to do something. she first created alec back in 2004, and in the year of 2007 many publishers didnt want to publish cob BECAUSE of him. they even had THE GUTS to suggest she removed him from her story. so yeah, tmi may have its flaws as its old but cc is always trying to do better - and at least that is something.

The acknowledgments is actually what made me post this. I haven’t finished the book yet but I read it. I agree though! Yeah, I’m happy that she created Alec at all, you know? I’m happy that she didn’t just leave them out of the story completely, which she very well could have and I’m even happy that she’s writing about them now. I’m most of the way through RSOM and I’m loving it so so much but that doesn’t really change that that acknowledgment irked me.

You’re free to disagree! I’m not here to trying to start a fight in any means, I completely understand why you would disagree with me but I’ve been following the series since it first came out. I only mention that too because I think it’s important to understand that I didn’t just jump into this fandom now and think, ‘oh well, she didn’t write about them then and she is now- so clearly she didn’t care about them fuck her.’ I’ve been in this fandom for a long time and I was listening to what CC was saying about these books when they were actually coming out and I just... 

I just truly don’t think she cared about Alec and Magnus like she does now. I completely understand the aspect of leaving them out because of the push back Alec’s character got and that's a valid reason for the first couple of books but... By the time City of Lost Souls came out, they were very popular. It was a really high selling series. CC could have done what she wanted at that point. She could have put more Alec and Magnus in and compensated for leaving them out in the beginning to get the books published. 

Even ignoring that though, yeah I get why she might have decided to leave them out because of that but I don’t think that was the only reason she didn’t write more of them. I honestly think she didn’t expect people to like them as much as they did. I mean, Jace and Clary were the main characters of TMI. Alec and Magnus were side characters. 

I think it was a combination of her A. not thinking the criticism was worth it (again, at that time valid in some way. I’m not saying it wasn’t) but also, B. just not thinking their characters mattered that much. This is another controversial topic but I think this is shown in what was actually written about them too, it’s not just the lack of writing about them. 

And that's all absolutely fine. I think CC has grown as a writer so much and personally, I think what she’s writing now is 10x better than her older stuff but what bothers me is the acknowledgment. Instead of saying like, ‘hey I left them out because I was getting criticism for having a gay character and I didn’t really realize how big these character would grow but I’m here now writing about them, I hope you guys like it.’

Instead of saying that she said, ‘the push back made me more determined to tell their story.’ Which... Seems like a blatant lie to me. She got push back and she kept them out of most of the scenes. Even when the series got big enough that she could have tried to fit them in more, she didn’t. She wasn’t more determined to write their story until the fandom completely fell in love with them, when she realized people loved these characters more than she thought and that people would love books about them (and she would make money. Again, no criticism on that but I’m sure that's a deciding factor). She also claims that she made them go on vacation on purpose to make this book and just find that hard to believe. I think it’s more realistic that she made them go on vacation because she needed them to go away and get closer while the other plot developed. She could have shown them on vacation more but she didn’t and I don’t think that was to leave room for this book, I think she just didn’t want to write about it at the time. 

Which is all again, fair! None of that is my issue. My issue is her overlooking their characters, not writing them in, writing not great content for when they were on the page (in my opinion) and THEN coming out with this book and claiming, ‘I planned this all along, I’ve always loved them, I’ve been fighting for this representation to be in my books all along’ when in reality, I think she just didn’t care for their characters until the fandom made them big.
