For the synopsis of Status Quo you mentioned the mc coming from an underground shelter. Were the shelters built in advance? Are they just for survival or are they underground cities where people have access to technology and are still learning/creating new things?

At this stage in my writing, the bunker is a massive facility that was part of a university extension. Not only does its underground design save space, it doubles as an air tight testing facility for biological research.

The apocalyptic event that creates the new world is the result of a super volcano (inspired by Yellowstone) going off and flooding Catalyst into the atmosphere. Super volcanos have signs of eruption for years before they erupt, so while the powers at be hid the oncoming eruption from the public, they converted places like Phylum’s home into bunkers fit their top scientists and researchers.

Over generations of isolation, the survivors have developed a hierarchy system based on genetic health and academic scores. Broken up into four classifications, the people live under the rule of the highest achievers, being given resources and freedoms that correlate with their perceived value as people.

The class in charge are known a Nobles, and Phylum’s family has held that status for generations.

Okay I’ll shut up now. Definitely DONT ask me what they do with babies with disabilities and genetic conditions. I would HATE to tell you all about that.

What if quantum immortality, the observer effect, the multiverse, the Mandela effect, ghosts, missing 411, and reincarnation are all real and connected. What if we can *only* experience being alive? When oceanic crust is first made, and its magnetic minerals cool down below a specific temperature named the Curie temperature (which varies from mineral to mineral), the minerals lock in the direc- tions of the north and south magnetic poles of the planet.

That's helpful, because the planet's indecisive magnetic poles keep changing position. Our planet's liquid outer core, which sits below the mantle, contains churning lumps of iron and nickel that, by going up and down over and over, gives Earth its magnetic field. Over the course of hundreds of thousands of years, chaos in the outer core causes the north and southmagnetic poles to flip, a bit like rotating a bar magnet 180 degrees.

Totally Random Non-Fiction Tuesday

It all started with Warehouse 13. HG (Helena George) Wells was going to use a trident like thingie super volcano under Yellowstone to erupt and cause another ice age on Earth (she was angry for multiple reasons, and I have to say, it is a really really well written storyline, Season 2, you won’t regret it, or watching Seasons 1-4 either).

I had no idea that there was such a thing as the Yellowstone Caldera until that show, or, that it was one of the super volcanos on Earth. Or, that there were humongous volcanoes on other planets/moons here in the Solar System too.

And, so, this book fed into that even more. It had so much info in it that I didn’t know, and, was a really really amazing read writing wise as well. Such a fun fun book.

Also, isn’t that just an awesome cover?
