At 12 years old, Tchima and her father had left Islam to follow Jesus. She was later sent to live with a Christian family member for safety reasons, but tragically, was raped by the driver of a motorcycle-taxi who threatened to kill her if she told anyone. ⠀ ⠀ After discovering she was pregnant as a result of the rape, Tchima’s host family married her off to a Muslim who promised to take care of her and the baby. Instead, however, he divorced her and she was forced to live with other relatives doing menial labor.⠀ ⠀ During this time, Tchima told one of our partners, “I am tired of my situation as a Christian. I have no hope of marrying a Christian man and I cannot stay alone like this. Besides, instead of helping me, Christians have slandered my name.” Sadly, she eventually chose to go back to Islam, where she became the 3rd wife of a Muslim man. Now no Christian is allowed near Tchima. ⠀ ⠀ Open Doors continues to look for viable ways to support Tchima’s father. We also work to provide appropriate spiritual and physical care to the most vulnerable among their congregations, especially converts from Islam and women like Tchima. But it is a slow process with many challenges.⠀ ⠀ Please pray join us in praying for Tchima and others like her.⠀ ⠀ Pray that the Lord will visit Tchima through His Spirit to encourage and comfort her. Pray for protection.⠀ ⠀ Pray that we will be able to find a way to help the family in a sustainable way and that Tchima will be able to be reunited with her family.⠀ ⠀ Pray for our work to equip the Church in Niger to provide sufficient physical and spiritual support to the most vulnerable among their flock.
