Kitesurf: Superkite Brazil 2020 starts at Guajirú Island, Fortaleza

From today until Saturday, 21, will be gathered kitesurfers from around the world, among them Ceará, experts in freestyle and that will compete under the seal of the Global Kitesports Association

No doubt November is a special month for kitesurfing in Ceará. Although we are entering the end of the 2020 season, international competitions have chosen this period to resume their activities, with Superfoil happening last week and Superkite opening its 2020 edition on Tuesday 17th.

It is there that, from today, the 17th, until Saturday, November 21, will be gathered sailors from all over the world, experts in freestyle and that will compete under the seal of the Global Kitesports Association.

So far, 39 kitesurfers are registered for Superkite. Of these, 13 are Brazilian (10 men and 3 women), and in this team you can say that if the Brazilian selection of kite is climbing, it is practically formed by Ceará people. In the male team, there are 7 representatives; the three-time world champion Carlos Mário Bebê, Alex Neto, Erick Anderson, Kalu de Souza, Mateus Mendez, Davi Ribeiro and João Lucas.

The three Brazilian representatives are from Ceará: two-time world champion and current Superkite champion Mika Sol, followed by Estefânia Rosa and Dioneira Vieira.

The competition lands this year for the first time on Guajirú Island, in Itarema (CE). The tranquil village of Isla do Guajiru is located on a tidal lagoon with kite schools and hotels nestled amongst the palm trees. The village saw a growth spurt after it was discovered by kitesurfers and  The strong wind and sand bar protected waters make this the perfect destination for a freestyle event. Commonly held in Ceará, Superkite Brazil took place for 18 years at Cumbuco Beach, in Caucaia
