there once was a hero called Vulture and his trusty sidekick Birdy. They were famous in taking down anyone that threatened their city weather it be crime or kingpins looking to rule the underworld. They were trusted to stop evil for years. Then Vulture hung up his wings and became angry and bitter. He became hard, and cold then turned on the city he had sworn to protect. When he did this his trusty sidekick didn't follow his lead.
She threw her old suit into the fire and watched as the flames engulfed her previous persona to ashes. Zipping up the waterproof jacket, tightening her belt, zipping up her boots, pulling on the black gloves, sheathing her battle stars, and other weapons to the pockets on her belt. Nodding at herself in the mirror she pulled the mask over her face and went hunting for the fallen hero she once called a mentor.
This was the rise of The Harpy a women hell bent on going after the hero's who turned on their oaths…
Brown fingers typed away on a keyboard in the cool lit space. They grabbed a mug labeled Queen every once in a while taking a sip of a dark liquid within. Newspaper clippings were on the walls from the past of hero's passing unexpectedly. Poisoned, drowned, dropped on justices doorsteps, hung from flagpoles and on and on and on. On the opposite wall were shelves of various weapons silver shiny battle stars, daggers, swords and a small collection of hand guns. A black jumpsuit hung on the wall with long sleeves that draped over it like bird wings. These were her new wings once bright, shiny and pristine. She traded them a long time ago for worn black leather.
A redlight flashed on your computer, clicking a button to switch to the security cameras. you smiled at the motorcycle that drew closer to the lair. You could hear the winding down of the motor as it got closer. The rumbling of the bike came to a soft stop, its rider was tall, red gloves, grey jacket, with a sling on his thigh. He turned off the bike shoved the key in his pocket. He unclasped his helmet as he walked up behind the woman in the chair, his bright red hair was flattened from the helmet. He scratched at it with his fingers as you spun around in the chair.
"What's up, Freddie."
"Did you get it?" you asked.
"I always do." Fred told setting his helmet down on the table. Going over to the coffee machine and picking up his mug.
He took out of his pocket a fancy envelope and handed it to you.
"Mr & Mrs. Smith, classic." You told.
"It's next week that gives us till then to plan Iceage's demise." Fred told.
"You wanna do that before or after dinner?" You asked Fred.
"After of course, you know I can't plan a whole mission on an empty tummy, you might be able to but I cannot."
You laughed.
"Come on, I bet Betty made the best!" Fred told excitedly. He pulled you off of your chair just as you hit save on your current file.
Following Fred up the stairs down the hallway passing pictures of expensive art, things had defiantly changed since you were a hero. That word gave you the ick now, you were far from that.
You were known as the assassin Harpy and Fred was Hellfire you both had been pushed to the brink in a past life and somehow found each other during a job you did, and through sweat, tears and a lot of body's dumped; became the most infamous villainous duos known to people everywhere. There was a saying "if you end up on Harpy & Hellfire's list your a dead man walking."
You and Fred sat down as your oldest staff member Betty served dinner under cloches.
"Thank you, Ms. Betty." You told.
You and Fred ate having a casual conversation, when you were finished. Fred loaded the dishwasher and started another pot of coffee. You pulled up your braids pushing a button on the console and watched as a large screen room table appeared out of the floor. It had blueprints of Henry Artic's lavish mansion on it. Fred came down the stairs with another mug handed it to you as you took a sip and pondered over the blueprints.
For the next couple days you and Fred's nights were spent planning.
Fred leaned on the table his brow creasing in thought.
"he still has a security team."
"Idiot…you take out his security." You told.
"What do you think his party is this time?"
"idk, but let's stop him from freezing people to death permanently." You told making your final decisions.
Fred nodded.
"The bike or the McClaren?" He asked.
"take your bike it makes a quicker get away."
Fred smirked. "Let's go take out our old colleague, yeah?"
On the night of the party you got dressed in a gown that hid your suit underneath, strutted over to your weapons wall, grabbing the tools you needed for the job. A couple smoke bombs, micro electric shocks, your ear piece, and your thigh pouch with your battle star gun, you loaded them into it and put it in it's holster. You let your braids cascade down your back. Your sliver belt keeping everything together around your frame.
Fred whistled behind you, You rolled your eyes at him. "Shut up."
He walked up beside you in half a suit with a matching bowtie and his biker jacket that had many pockets for his gadgets. around his waist were his fireworks that held many surprises not all of them were fire but they'd leave a bang if he pushed the right button. He pulled on his gloves and his mask. pushing a button on his belt you heard a low hum of the bike starting up.
He handed you a helmet and put his own on as well. Swinging his leg over the bike. He pushed buttons as it hummed to life like a plane getting ready to take off. Once you were ready you held on to the back grips and you two took off up through the ground tunnel zooming towards your destination.
You handed your invitation to the doorman who stared too long at you, but stopped as soon as Fred kissed your face. And glared the man down.
"Welcome Mr & Mrs. Smith this evenings festivities are in the a ballroom." He told.
You smiled politely at the doorman and walked off. You and Fred mingled a bit through the party before Fred slipped down a hallway finding his way into the security room. Fred pulled his mask down and threw a tiny flashing ball down the hallway. it released a cloud of smoke; soon Fred heard bodies dropping to the floor snores following after. He slipped into the security room knocking out the guard at the console and lowering him onto the floor slowly.
Fred looked at the cameras and got to work with the plan. He saw you sneaking down a hallway after Henry, he smirked. He disabled the cameras at all the exits, entrances and hallways, he nicked a gun off of one of the guards and took off after you.
"I've got your six, Harpy." You heard into your earpiece.
As you were stalking down the stairs towards Henry. He got to a door and looked around before going in. You slipped in just before the door shut. Staying in a dark corner of the room, you grabbed one of your stars. Hearing Henry typing on a computer. The room smelled like bleach, coolant and it was chilly. You could hear hums of machines. This must have been his lab.
Just before he pushed the button on his water system you pulled the trigger and a star cut his hand. He cursed loudly in pain.
"time's up Henry." you spoke with a scowl stepping out of the darkness.
"Ah, tiny birdie we meet again….or should I say Harpy?"
You swallowed, still holding one of your stars in your hand, you stepped forward having shed your dress that turned into your suit, your wings were tucked around you like a birds at rest.
"Nice wings." Henry commented flatly.
"are you actually gonna kill me this time?"
You squinted at him eyes unwavering.
"all by yourself?" Henry pushed a button behind him. A sinister grin forming on his face. It was still in the room for a moment he was waiting for something but it never came. You smiled evilly.
His eyes darted around the room looking everywhere but at you.
"She's not alone, Henry." Fred announced walking forwards aiming the blaster at Iceage'e head.
"Fred Gideon, my old second." Fred circled him in small steps. Face set in determination, he clenched his teeth. This man had been someone he looked up to ages ago but he broke his oath and his trust.
He killed people, good people some were friends some were family he said he wouldn't but one day he did and that was when Fred snapped. He went after Iceage in a blind rage and almost died because of it. He didn't perish that day only because Harpy was after him too, he remembered it well.
Fred carried her out of the ice chamber before the countdown ended that night. Henry escaped back then as Fred cried out of agony on the pavement as an ambulance wailed in the background closer and closer to them. They were the only survivors of that freeze attack years ago. From then on Fred worked for Harpy, he believed in her cause and became her partner in crime, literally. Shredding away his good guy persona for a vigilante one.
He told her if they ever came upon Iceage again he wanted his revenge he wanted to kill the man who ruined his life. It would be different than all the other times he killed but it would ease that pain he harbored for the old man.
Henry's cold dark eyes turned away from Harpy to Fred. He laughed darkly.
"You dont have the guts, boy." He spat.
You heard the hurt, anger, and bit of coldness. In Fred's next words.
"I'm not your minion anymore, you git." There was a bang from his gun and a thud as Henry's body hit the floor, the smell of blood filled your nose, a puddle of it oozed out underneath the body on the floor. His face motionless. Then his body started to crystalize like ice just before it cracks. And he stopped bleeding only to freeze.
Fred went over to his body and stomped his boot down hard. The sound of ice shattering like glass filled the room. He wiped the mess off his boot on the body's shirt.
You heard the blaring of the alarms next and red lights flashing you could hear people screaming and scrambling to the closing doors all around the mansion.
"SHIT! HE HIT THE BUTTON, FRED WE GOTTA GO!"
Fred spun on his heels, and ran towards the door. You scattered tiny blinking gadgets on the floor as you fled.
"IF YOU DIE IN HERE, I WILL KILL YOU!!" Fred shouted as he ran as quick as he could.
"NOT TODAY!!" you shouted running towards a door at the end of a hallway into the foyer and out the big front doors.
You pushed a button on your belt the familiar hum of your wings starting to came out of your suit.
As you quickly started to rise into the air you took off flying through the countryside you saw a vehicle zipping through the landscape way ahead of you. Fred's voice rang in your ear through the comm.
"WHY DID YOU RISK YOUR LIFE AGAIN?" You shook your head pushing the button you were holding and a loud explosion rang in the distance. Fred saw in his side view mirror the explosion, he slowed his bike to a stop and turned back to look.
You heard a sigh of relief over your comm, landing beside his bike and climbing on.
The ride back to base was a silent one neither you or Fred said anything. But as you descended into the tunnel of your private road, Fred sighed.
"I know what your going to say, I know how your feeling right now & it is worth it that your nightmare is gone. That there is one less monster out there, even if you had to become one to get rid of a worse one."
"We're not saints, We're monsters too, just not like them."
"We're the reason they look over their shoulders, Freddie. We always will be."
Fred dropped you off, You bumped his fist.
"Good Job tonight, take a couple days, I gotta play business woman for a few. Call if you see anything." you told.
"Will do, have fun with your robinhood." Fred joked.
you laughed sarcastically.
"Goodnight, Hellfire." You shouted waving to him walking into the lair.
"See ya, Harpy!" he shouted back, zooming back up through the tunnel.
