631 to go
Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975, dir. Pier Paolo Pasolini): This was not a fun time. Why am I doing this again?
Surfwise (2007, dir. Doug Pray): A mostly disposable documentary. The subject matter is interesting but it doesn’t feel like the director was quite sure what he wanted to say and the themes never coalesced into anything substantial.
Mr: Deeds Goes to Town (1936, dir. Frank Capra): This is where the word ‘doodling’ comes from??
My Man Godfrey (1936, dir. Gregory La Cava): Absolutely charming. William Powell and Carole Lombart are both powerhouses.
The Thin Man (1934, dir. W.S. Van Dyke): Watched this next because I was in the mood for more William Powell and he and Myrna Loy are a perfect pair. Every interaction between them is gold, wish they’d shared more screentime!
No. 12: Heaven and Earth Magic (1962, dir. Harry Smith): I think it’s time to admit that 60s experimental cinema just ain’t for me.
The Lavender Hill Mob (1951, dir. Charles Crichton): A very fun little heist movie, though simple to the point where even with an 80 minute runtime it still dragged in places.
The Golden Coach (1952, dir. Jean Renoir): I, too, am in love with Camilla.
Passenger (1963, dir. Andrzej Munk, Witold Lesiewicz): Harrowing and dreamlike; the fact that this film was left unfinished somehow works in its favor.
