(because my d&d session got rescheduled and that messed up my reading day a bit)
You’re All I Need to Know by @twistedkit (TwistedK on AO3)
I will start out by saying this fic isn’t for everyone, and that’s only because of the Archive Warning it comes with. Some people avoid fics that have the “Major Character Death" tag, and, hey, no fault there as I am normally one of those people as well.
However, it is so beautiful, so mesmerizing in the way it is written, that I couldn’t stay away. That’s why it’s stayed on my “To Be Read” list. I actually started reading it about a year ago when it first came to its conclusion. I wasn’t in a good place to finish it then, but I’m glad I came back to it now.
This story evokes such raw emotion, and while it is painful, still, to read about some of the subject matter within, it also gave me peace in a way I didn’t expect.
Of course, my reaction to this fic, and how it affected me, probably differs from others, so here are a few of my favorite lines (that aren’t, I don’t believe, spoiler-y) to hopefully entice you–
How does science explain the mangled things escaping from a freshly broken heart?
Lost, he wants to say. Because Erwin leaves him crumbs along a path that leads to nowhere, clues too sparse to make sense of.
–but there are so many more. Heck, I could quote the whole thing.
I can’t say too much else without giving anything away. Believe me, I want to go on and on about the beauty and the sadness and the spirit of this fic, but, at the risk of rambling if I do, I will finish by saying:
This fic is heartbreakingly lovely. True, it’ll make your chest ache, and it might make you cry, but I implore you, please, give it a try. It is well worth it.
(Psst…there’s also an epilogue that you can read when you’re done. It is short but oh so sweet, and it will make your chest ache in a different way. I mean, it’ll probably make you cry some more, too - I definitely did lol - but, again, it is well worth it.)
