Since instagram was founded, this #motif has gone viral in the world. You can find millions of selfies with this one under the hashtag #blueboothaus. The boathouse is always easy to find. On normal days, people queue up, especially many from Asia, with whom the hip for this motif began. With the peaceful Romanesque view it is an eye catcher of course. However appearances are deceptive. The #jetty is on a busy road to Stirling Hwy and the bank on the other side is heavily built up if you look closely. The boathouse is in the middle of the city in the SwanRiver. Nevertheless, I can promise that hearing a photo will still pay off and everyone who has welcomed Western Australia will do the boathouse with themselves at the very front of their photo album. A visit to Kings Park in Perth is easy to combine, because the most south-westerly exit leads directly to this jetty.

Australasia 190 years ago today: Swan River Colony (18 Jun 1829) https://buff.ly/2Bgpfqv Initial British claims to Australia were limited to the eastern portion of the continent; the western part being deemed unsuitable for colonization and already subject to Dutch claims. In 1826, with any Dutch claims waived and concerned about French intentions on the west coast of Australia, the British Colony of New South Wales built an outpost at King George Sound. Two and a half years later the British consolidated their presence in the region by establishing a more substantial British settlement on the Swan River. The hour and a half ferry transit down the river Swan was well worth it. The river is surrounded by expensive houses on both sides and the area is well increasing its population. On our arrival to Fremantle I was able to capture some very nice shots of the Queen Mary. Fremantle is a port city in Western Australia located 19 kilometres southwest of Perth at the mouth of the Swan River. Within the city, you can find well-preserved 19th-Century buildings and spectacular colonial architecture, vibrant restaurants and cafe lined streets as well as an energetically colourful market. For a city of a small size (24K people), Fremantle is very diverse with only 62% of the population born in Australia. On the day we visited Fremantle’s prison, built by convict labour and used as a maximum security prison from 1855 until 1911, the Round house (Australia’s oldest public building), the famous South Terrace and the Western Australian Maritime museum. Overall I thought Fremantle was a very charming place with a somewhat bohemian and creative atmosphere and splendid Victorian colonial architecture.
