Klaus and Elena connect over drinks at the Mystic Falls Grill. They might have more in common than they thought.

I unfortunately cannot remember, but when you watched tvd, were you totally into klaroline? And did you ever write fic for them?

I know canonically you were a delena fan, as was I, did you ever write anything for them? 🤔

hahaha no if anything I was a (silent) klaroline anti. I was very not into it!

if anything, it's been later as people have asked me this question again and again and I've mulled over it more that I've realized it's not the ship pairing itself I didn't like, but the way it was just so out of nowhere. as a viewer, I needed a shared goal/wild situation they were both thrown into/maybe like a quest or something they both had to go on in order for me to believe them getting to know each other well enough to be interested in each other. I think the sparks could fly but we just didn't get the set up that was necessary for me to enjoy it at the time.

that being said-- I am FIERCELY ship and let ship-- for everyone who enjoys this ship-- GOOD! keep on enjoying :)

I was in retrospect obviously fixated on this fic though because I wrote it into a few of my klena fics-- The Last Time, Possession, and (The Stars Were Brightly Shining) all feature Klaroline as a prominent throughline-- I think I was trying to understand the ship and so I kept writing it in to try to figure it out-- like, it was part of canon and I wanted to make sense of it and like it, so I just kept trying!

as for delena... yes, that is my primary ship in canon. Back in 2015, I started Blood Ties, which I envisioned as a 6 chapter fic exploring vampire bloodlines/covens, and like, twisting season 5 canon, but after I published the first chapter I got no comments whatsoever (and, it took months for a single comment) so I was extremely discouraged and put it aside. I had never had that experience of no interest before, especially in tvd fandom.

If you asked me who my favorite Star Wars bounty hunter is, I’d have a tough time giving you an answer. But Bossk is up there. Top 5 at least. I love this scaly bastard. Makes for a really good figure too.

The Mystic Falls crew is "protecting" Elena by keeping her out of the loop, unaware of how isolated it's making her feel

Elena runs into another unexpectedly lonely individual at The Grill - Klaus Mikaelson - and on a whim, agrees to let him keep her company

How can you drop something like "expanded swbs universe" in the tags of a post so casually like that?

Without me asking for at least one breadcrumb from that universe?

oh so yeah, I've completely expanded the story to "what happens next for like the next 30 years" in my head

there is the whole Klaus x Elena story but then I also gave adult!Lyra a story

this got long, going to put it under a read more:

anyway so I think I've mentioned before that Klaus and Elena come to a crossroads about 2.5 years after the end of SWBS's epilogue? It's in the spring of Elena's last year of college (she finishes her degree in 3 years, so she is 22, Lyra is nearly 3) and at this point Klaus is pressuring her about what next? He either wants to turn her now or have another child-- he doesn't particularly see the point in Elena staying mortal unless they want to expand their family. If she's not interested in another child, that's fine, but he wants her to make the final commitment to him. Elena doesn't like either of those options-- she's still not settled in her mind or her heart about becoming a vampire, but neither does she want to have another child at 22. And she really, really doesn't respond well to the ultimatum between two paths she doesn't want to take. Eventually this all comes to a head, and the argument is catastrophic.

Klaus views this as a rejection, and there are some Ross and Rachel type miscommunications, and he very much so views this as a break up (but Elena doesn't really). (Even though he also simultaneously has this idea/fixation that he is never going to let Elena go, that any pause is inherently temporary--)

Enter Katherine.

The next part is extremely fucked up. Read at your peril.

It's really just bad luck on Katherine's part, but basically she runs into Klaus right after this and while he normally still lean toward revenge killing her for not going through with the sacrifice, he offers her a get out of jail free card-- pretend to be Elena for him, and if she is so convincing he can forget that she's not, then he will let her live.

Obviously Katherine acts her heart out.

And they sleep together with Katherine role playing Elena.

And obviously Elena is going to interrupt this because she does not think they've broken up, she just thinks they've had a bad argument, and she's come to talk it through and try to come to some reasonable understanding of where to go from here-- because she assumes that of course they'll go on.

And this leads to the Very Real, Very Long and Horrible Break Up that goes on and on for years.

I think.

Because I had some very evil thoughts the other day about some alternatives.
